Traveling Around the World
We live in a wonderful world.More and more people like traveling around the world.
The UK isagentlemanlike country. London is the capital.It’s famous for Big Ben,TowerBridgeand theBritish Museum.Big Ben is 95 meters tall,Tower Bridge is 244 meters long and the British Museum is over 250 years old.You can see many artworks there.
Everybody knows the USA,it is an open country and the capital is Washington D.C.It is famous for Disneyland and Hollywood.The Disneyland in America is the first theme park in the world.It was opened in 1955.Hollywood is on the west coast.You can see wonderful movies made there.
Howmuch doyouknow about Australia?Sydney is the biggestcity in Australia,but Canberra is the capitalcity.Australia is famous for the Sydney Opera House and Gold Coast.People like visiting the Sydney Opera House.It opened in 1973.Gold Coast is famous for many beautiful beaches.You can swim in the sea and eat seafood on the beaches.
There are so many wonderful places to visit around the world such as the UK,the USA and Australia.Are there any countries you want to visit?
一、教学背景分析
学生之前使用的是《新起点英语》教材,现在使用的是PEP教材。作为山东省的一所名校,我们与多个国家的多所学校每年进行互访交流,我校学生对于世界各国概况和文化有强烈的学习需求。加之修订版PEP教材中“Around the World”的内容相对缺乏,所以选择了以《新起点英语》六(上)Unit 2 Around the World Lesson 3为脚本重新编写并补充到英语课程中,为更好地进行国际交流打好基础。本课(Traveling Around the World)是一节以旅行为话题的阅读课,教学内容包括英国、美国和澳大利亚三国的首都、城市及景点。
二、教学目标
1.知识与技能目标
(1)能够在语境中理解、听、说capital,gentleman-like,Hollywood,Canberra等单词。
(2)能够用下列句型介绍国家和城市。

(3)能够读懂教师提供的旅游手册,小组合作完成本组的旅游手册。

四、教学过程
Step 1.Lead-in导入(启动环节)

T:Yes! Our motherland!Did you go aboard?Where did you go?
S1:I went to the UK.
T:What is the UK famous for?
S1:The London Eye.It’s very beautiful!
设计意图:以自由交谈的形式开启话题。
2.Warm-up.
T:You know something about the countries in the world.Can you tell me the names of the countries as quickly as you can?
What country is it?
I show the students many pictures of famous places,native animals, national sports and traditional food.Ask them to say out the names of the countries as quickly as they can.
设计意图:根据国家特色景物或者事物快速辨别国家,激活旧知。
Step 2.Pre-Reading阅读前(呈现环节)
T:How beautiful! I want to go traveling! Do you want to go traveling?If you want to go traveling,I think a guide book is needed.The guide book is designed for visitors.Show Ss a travel guides book and ask the students to read the title of the book: Traveling Around the World.
设计意图:引出文本,文本是以旅游手册的形式呈现的。
Step 3.While-Reading阅读中(阅读理解)
借助五个任务引导学生分层次阅读文本材料,运用扫读、寻读等方法帮助学生获取信息。
1.Task 1:(1)Read and answer.(任务一:扫读全文,获取关键信息)
T:Can you read this book quickly and tell me:“How many countries can you find?What are they?”寅 the UK,the USA and Australia.
Show them the full names of the 3 countries.
T:Do you know capital?寅capital
Task 1:(2)Read and find out the capitals.寅London,Washington D.C and Canberra.
2.Task 2:(1)Read and underline.(任务二:精读UK,生成思维导图)教师示范画思维导图,帮助学生梳理UK的文段信息。
T:What is the UK famous for?
Ss:It’s famous for Big Ben,Tower Bridgeand theBritish Museum.
T:How tall is Big Ben?How long is Tower Bridge?How old is the British Museum?
Task 2:(2)Read and fill in the blanks.

3.Task 3:Read and draw.(Pair work)(任务三:同位合读,绘制USA导图)
Students read and draw the mind maps of the USA.
Ss show their maps and say something about the USA.
设计意图:这一任务体现了由扶到放、内化策略的过程。学生在运用图形、色彩和关键信息绘制导图的过程中,大脑处于高度兴奋的状态,对文段的理解更深刻,记忆也更牢固。
4.Task 4:Read and challenge. (任务四:速读抢答,反馈阅读效果)
Ask the students to remember the key points about Australia.Then close their books and answer the questions.
5.Task 5:Choose,read and introduce.(任务五:小组选读,输出文段信息)
Ask the students to work in group of four. Choose one paragraph abouttheirfavorite country and read it loudly.Then try to introduce that country.
设计意图:之前的任务活动都是以默读的形式进行,目的是要保证学生在充足的静默阅读时间内有效获取信息,理解并内化语言。本环节的任务则是要求学生放声朗读,以加深其对文本的理解,同时培养其语音和语调。
Step 4.Post-Reading阅读后(应用环节)
Ask the students to make guide books in groups.Students in each group discuss and confirm one common country and then make a guide book.Then each group shows the book and recommends the country to all the students.
设计意图:设计真实任务使学生学以致用,凸显语用。学生通过小组合作选择自己喜欢的国家制作旅游手册并展示和推荐给全班同学,此任务让学生实际运用所学语言。
Step 5.Ending结束(教学小结)
1.Brief summary.
