She is general Mulan， taking responsibility for her family. She is Emperess Wu Zetian， breaking all the old rules. She is also French heroine Joan of Arc， fighting for her country.

These are the roles Hong Kong singer Gloria Tang Tsz-kei plays in her newest music video Rise. The 29-year-old released the video on Nov 27， 2020 and it received over 1.3 million views on YouTube within five days.

This is the first time Tang has worn ancient costumes in one of her music videos. When asked why she chose to portray these female leaders， Tang said： “I was imagining how Wu Zetian moved forward when facing controversy over her rule while I was writing the song.”

Just like the women in her video， Tang has been forging ahead herself. Born in a musical family， she released her first album at the age of 16. But it was not until she took part in the popular TV show I Am a Singer in 2014 that her career took off. People were impressed with her talent and powerful voice and gave her the nickname “Girl with the giant lungs （肺）”.

After this success， Tang wanted to try something new. So she joined the music show The Rap of China in 2018 and 2019. She wrote her own rap songs and learned how to rap. In her rap song Miss Almost， Tang sings： “They go after almost-the-same beauty and almost-the-same dreams， but life is not supposed to be that way.”

Obviously， Tang doesnt want to be a “Miss Almost”—maybe thats why she is always trying new things.
