专业四级易考同源形容词辨析

【摘要】同一个动词或者名词加上不同的后缀可以构成两个或两个以上的形容词，这些形容词形式相似，但意义迥然不同。笔者将近几年专业四级出现的或容易出现的同源形容词的用法和意义进行整理归纳，以期读者能掌握并会运用这些同源形容词。

同一个动词或者名词加上不同的后缀可以构成两个或两个以上的形容词，这些形容词形式相似，但意义迥然不同。笔者将近几年专业四级出现的或容易出现的同源形容词的用法和意义进行整理归纳，以期读者能掌握并会运用这些同源形容词。

1. exhausted和exhaustive

exhausted 是由动词exhaust 加-ed 构成的过去分词，作形容词使用，英文释义为very tired 疲惫、疲倦等意思。exhaustive 也是由动词exhaust 加-ive构成的形容词。其英文释义very thorough， complete彻底的、完全的、详尽的等意思。

例：The scientists have made an _____ study of the viruses that cause the disease.

A. exhausted？ B. exhausting？ C. exhaustive？ D. exhaustion （2009年专业四级考试语法与词汇项）

题目的意思是科学家对造成这种疾病的病毒进行了详尽的研究，因此答案选C。

2. considerable和considerate

considerable： great in amount or size 相当大的，相当多的。considerate： thoughtful 为他人着想的，考虑周到的，体贴的。

例：On the road motorists should be aware of cyclists and be ____ towards them.

A. considerable B. considering C. considerate D. considered （2008年专业四级语法与词汇项）

本题意思是：路上摩托车手应注意到骑自行车的人并且要为他们考虑。因此答案选considerate.

3. distinguished，distinctive和distinct

distinguished： 1. dignified in appearance or manner （外表或举止上）有尊严的、高贵的2. showing remarkable qualities 卓越的、杰出的。

distinctive： that distinguishes sth. by making it different from others 特别的，有特色的。 如：a distinctive smell 特殊的气味。

distinct：1. definite， easily heard， seen or felt 清楚的、明确的 2. distinct （from sth.） different in kind， separate 种类不同的，分开的。

例：The patterns of spoken language are ____ from those of writing.

A. distinct B. distinctive C. distinguished D. distinguishing （2012年专业四级考试词汇与语法项）

本题意思为口语与书面语是不同的，区分开的。因此答案选A. distinct 有区别的，分开的。

4. intense和intensive

intense：1.（of sensations） very great or severe，extreme （指感觉） 强烈的、剧烈的、极度的 如：intense heat 酷热2.（of emotions） very strong （指感情等）强烈的、热烈的 如：intense interest 浓厚的兴趣。

intensive：1.concentrating all ones effort on a specific area 集中的、密集的 如：labor-intensive industry劳动力密集产业2.extremely thorough 彻底的 如：intensive search彻底搜查。

例：The heat in summer is no less _________ here in this mountain region。

A.concentrated B.extensive C.intense D.intensive （2005年专业四级考试词汇与语法项）

本题意思为：该山区夏天依然酷暑。因此答案选C，intense。与前面的heat 搭配。

5. respectable、respectful和respective

这三个都是respect 派生出的形容词，用法各异。

respectable：1.of acceptable social position， decent and proper in appearance or behavior 体面的，有身份的，值得尊敬的 如：a respectable professor 一位值得尊敬的教授2.of a moderately good standard or size 达到一定标准或规模的 如：a respectable income 一份可观的收入。

respectful： feeling or showing respect如respectful of others opinion 尊重别人的观点。常用的搭配是respectful to sb. respectful of sth.

respective：of or belonging to each as an individual各自的、各个的、分别的 如：our respective field我们各自的领域。

例：The young employee has a（n）______ quality - he is totally honest.

A.respectable？ B.admirable？ C.decent？ D.approachable （2009年专业英语四级考试词汇与语法项）

本题虽不是专门针对respectable， respectful 和respective 辨析，但也考到了respectable. respectable 是让人尊敬的，有身份的意思，admirable 是让人羡慕的意思，decent 有令人满意，相当好的意思，approachable 有可接近的，可亲近的意思。本题大意是这名年轻的员工有相当好的品质—他为人诚实。因此答案选C。
