Have you ever known Dorothy in the magical Land of Oz?
I think its one of the best-known classic childrens story book.
Ive read it many years ago, but I almost forgot about it until I happened to see my sister reading it. So, Im going to read it again.
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is an American childrens novel written by author L. Frank Baum. The Wizard of Oz, which is the title of the popular 1902 Broadway musical adaptation as well as the iconic 1939 musical film adaptation.
The story chronicles the adventures of a young farm girl named Dorothy in the magical Land of Oz, after she and her pet dog Toto are swept away from their Kansas home by a cyclone. On her way home, weird things happened to Dorothy. She encountered the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion who were in need of help. Then, they all took the yellow brick road to the Emerald City on purpose. Even though, on their way to the Emerald City, they met numbers of difficulties, luckily, they successfully dealt with them and finally arrived at the kingdom they longing for. However, accidents will happen. The moment they found the Wizard of Oz is just a liar, their dreams failed. Later, fortunately, with the help of the witch Glinda, all of them realized their dreams and Dorothy came back home as she wished.
Such an interesting story, and it is too attractive to put it down. Its easy to finish for its short length. I really enjoyed it. It brought me into the wonderland of the fairy tale and adventured with many friends. Whats more, I got a further intimate knowledge.
I fully appreciates her courage. In case of being ignoring of everything in a new kingdom, she bravely walked forward. No matter how many obstacles lie ahead, she always beard it in mind that ‘East, west—home is the best! , Kansas has no trees, no green hills, no gardens, though. That is true. Whatever what is the view outside, how beautiful is it, breast is important. Home is always the habitat comforts lost people drifting in the wind. And the courage to overcome all difficulties is greatly essential.
I couldnt help reminding of some experiences in my freshman year. And Ive always wondered if I had learned it earlier, maybe my life would have been more colorful.
Before I went to college, I was proud of myself all the time as a top student in English. Although I have always been clear that oral English, under Chinese hard education, has certain defects, I never thought my spoken English would be poor to a certain extent until my professional teacher pointed out many times that I was not a good speaker. Especially, when you committed continuous efforts to something while finally you got a C or D, it really pushed me over the edge. Frustration and sadness kept flooding into my mind.
Just like one book says, Kong Yoji fell, stood up at a loss, with two eyes, looking at the people around the stand by, and he left two lines of tears. He wondered where to put his hopes.
Thats the feeling--helpless but afraid to ask for help.
After that, I seldom took an initiative to speak and was reluctant to speak. I dared not to read and gradually lost my courage and confidence. The day seemed to fall into endless darkness.
However, like the one mentioned in the story, the scarecrow still eager for knowledge, even though he felt ashamed of the lack of wisdom all the time; the tiger still longs to be strong ,even though he is timid for the shortage of courage. But, where there is a will there is a way. Despite all the uncertainties and difficulties, they kept moving forward, and finally succeed.
Everything in the world is done by hope. A farmer does not husk a kernel of corn, if he does not wish it to grow into a seed. A bachelor cannot marry if he does not wish to have children. A businessman will not go to work if he does not hope to make a profit from it.
So did I. Every time I felt like giving in and admitting that I was really bad, I would feel the strange beast that had slumbered so long within my bosom stir. I was unreconciled. I was not willing to give up for obstacles. How could someone so proud fail speaking out of turn?
Then, I was trying and signed up for cram school. Maybe you would say theres no need to waste money for that, as long as you imitate the accent following foreigners in TV shows.
But, I dont think its a bad idea for those who lack of confidence. And while, sometimes, incorrect ways of learning suggestions may make originally lost people more hesitated about their future.
After a period of time, I didnt dare to say that my spoken English has greatly improved, but I was certain to make progress. Im willing to be a volunteer in oral class and express my opinions. And in a series of speeches, you not only improve your courage and braver; but also the oral and writing skills. Public cases are more impressive.
Whats more, because Im an intern in an French industry. I could have the chance to talk with French. Ridiculously, I found that only Chinese people laugh at Chinese people. Foreigners always try their best to be friendly.
After that, it dawned on me, instead of seeing as mistakes, it should be regarded only as growth. Just smile, knowing the next try will be better and the flag spinner will be hooked. And you ought to keep it in mind that you are not bad. But, just sometimes you lack the courage to do something or lacking in flexibly making the most of the skills you learnt.
If you desire something, just do it. If not capable or good you thought, just be back. Hide your capacities and bide your time to rise abruptly based on accumulated strength.
The time never forgets passionate and courageous one.
