误:I haven’t heard from her letter for a long time.
正:I haven’t heard from her for a long time.
析:hear from sb.相当于get/ receive a letter from sb.,因此不可在hear from后加letter。
2. 虽然天很晚了,但他们仍继续工作。
误:Though it was late, but they still went on working.
正:Though it was late, they still went on working.
析:漢语的“虽然……但是……”译成英语时,用了though就不可再用but;同样,用了but,就不可再用though。故此句也可说成:It was late, but they still went on working.
3. 我和他都没去过长城。
误:Neither he nor I have not been to the Great Wall.
正:Neither he nor I have been to the Great Wall.
析:“neither…nor…”意为“两者都不”,本身已含否定意义,故不可再加否定词not。
4. 我希望你们俩明天都能来参加聚会。
误:I hope that both you two can come to the party tomorrow.
正:I hope that you two can come to the party tomorrow.
正:I hope that both of you can come to the party tomorrow.
析:both与two都指“两个”,不可一起使用。
5. 这只箱子要比那只重得多。
误:This box is much more heavier than that one.
正:This box is much heavier than that one.
析:much修饰形容词、副词的比较级和最高级。heavier是heavy的比较级,前面不需加more。
6. 昨天他们是步行去车站的。
误:They walked to the station on foot yesterday.
正:They walked to the station yesterday.
正:They went to the station on foot yesterday.
析:walk本身有“步行(on foot)”的意思,用了walk,若再用on foot,显然是画蛇添足。
7. 这本书多少钱?
误:How much is the price of the book?
正:What is the price of the book?
正:How much is the book?
析:“How much is/ are…?”意为“……价钱是多少?”,其后不可与price连用。
8. 学校离我家很近。
误:Our school is near from my home.
正:Our school is near my home.
析:句子中的near是介词,不能与from连用(有时可用near to形式)。
9. 我还没有做完家庭作业。
误:I still haven’t finished doing my homework yet.
正:I still haven’t finished doing my homework.
正:I haven’t finished doing my homework yet.
析:still和yet都可用于否定句中,表示“还、仍然”之意,但不可用于同一个句子中,still一般位于表示否定的助动词前,yet用于否定句句末。
10. 你离开之前要先关灯。
误:You must turn off the light down before you leave.
正:You must turn off the light before you leave.
析:句中的down是多余的,应去掉。
11. 你喜欢喝茶还是喝咖啡?
误:Which do you prefer more, tea or coffee?
正:Which do you prefer, tea or coffee?
正:Which do you like better, tea or coffee?
析:prefer本身有“较喜欢(like better)”之意,如果句中用了prefer,就不必再用more。
12. 你应当保管好你的东西。
误:You should take good care of your things carefully.
正:You should take good care of your things.
析:take good care of有“认真保管好”之意,故不必再用副词carefully。
13. 这男孩名叫约翰。
误:The name of the boy is called John.
正:The name of the boy is John.
析:name与be called不能同时使用。
14. 她一回来,我就立即告诉你。
誤:As soon as she comes back, I’ll let you know at once.
正:As soon as she comes back, I’ll let you know.
析:as soon as有“立刻”之意,从句中用了as soon as,主句中就不能再用at once,right now, right away之类的词了。
15. 滑雪是她最喜爱的运动。
误:Skiing is her most favourite sport.
正:Skiing is her favourite sport.
析:favourite本身含有“最喜爱(like best)”之意,前面不能再用most修饰。又如:My favourite subject is English.
16. 韩梅吃完早饭就急急忙忙去上学了。
误:After breakfast, Han Mei hurried to go to school.
正:After breakfast, Han Mei hurried to school.
析:hurry相当于move quickly,本身含有“走”之意,后面不可再接go,walk,run之类的动词,但可接名词或动词不定式形式。如:She hurried to the post office. /They have to hurry away to catch the bus.
17. 大家都非常喜欢这个男孩。
误:Everyone all likes the little boy very much.
正:Everyone likes the little boy very much.
析:everyone有“每个人,大家”的意思,用了everyone或everybody就不必再用all了。
18. 他说他将在两个月以后回来。
误:He says he will be back in two months later.
正:He says he will be back in two months.
析:in用在将来时句子中有“在某段时间之后”的意思,故in two months后不需加later。此外,later与after也不可用在同一句中。试比较:
三年后,我遇见了她。
误:After three years later, I met her.
正:After three years, I met her.
正:Three years later, I met her.
19. 太阳从东方升起。
误:The sun rises up in the east.
正:The sun rises in the east.
析:rise相当于come up,故up是多余的。
20. 所有的图书必须在下星期一前还给图书馆。
误:All the books must be returned back to the library before next Monday.
正:All the books must be returned to the library before next Monday.
析:return相当于give back,不应在return后再加back。
