Trial Runs of First-in-China Unit for Manufacture of MMA from C4 Hydrocarbons

The first in China process unit for manufacture of methyl methacrylate (MMA) has been constructed in the Shandong Huayi Yuhuang New Materials Company, Ltd. to begin its trial production. It is learned that this project has adopted the technology for producing MMA from C4hydrocarbons and the associated technology for preparation of oxidation catalyst with independent intellectual property rights developed by the Shanghai Huayi Acrylic Acid Company Limited. The planned production capacity will reach 100 kt per annum.It is told that the technology for manufacture of MMA from C4hydrocarbons has broken up the foreign monopoly of this technology to fill up the gap in China. Since the abundant availabilty of C4hydrocarbons coupled with the environmentally friendly production process can match up to the current industry situation in China, this technology can significantly increase the utilization of C4hydrocarbon resources to be a promising process production route that is supported by the country and is expected to secure a leading position inside China.
