Package Technology for Manufacture of 200 kt/a of Ethylene Glycol from Syngas at Hubei Chemical Fertilizer Plant Passed Appraisal

On November 28, 2017, the package technology involving a 200 kt/a unit for manufacture of ethylene glycol from syngas at the Hubei Chemical Fertilizer Plant has passed the appraisal organized by the Sinopec Corp. The 200 kt/a demonstration unit for manufacture of ethylene glycol from syngas is one of 10 key task projects envisaged in SINOPEC’s plan on application of its propriatery package technologies.

The Shanghai Petrochemical Research Institute and the Shanghai Engineering Company have formed a key task team to finally develop a PDP on the unit for production of ethlene glycol from syngas, which has been operating at full load in August 2017.

The experts attending the appraisal meeting have warmly confirmed the achievements of this unit and recognized that the process flow diagram, the control schme and the equipment selection of this demonstration unit are reasonable, and the process is safe and reliable, while the waste solids, liquids and gases after relevant treatment procedures can be discharged to meet the environmental regulations, and the technical indicators of the unit are better than the design values, with the product being adopted at present in the production of polyesters. The experts have raised suggestions on speeding up the dissemination and application of this technology.
