当means作“方式、手段”解时,它是个单复数同行的词,作主语时谓语到底是用单数还是复数要视具体情况而定。如:

Means表示“方法,手段”,其单复数形式相同。当means作主语且有every, each, one, a等词修饰时,谓语动词用单数;有all, some, several, many, few 等词修饰时,谓语动词用复数。
Means, way, method, manner均有“方式,方法”之意,其介词搭配为:by ... means , in ... way/manner, with ... method。

【辨析】
happen与occur均可表示“发生”,但occur比happen更正式;take place没有偶然发生之意,它表示有组织、有计划地发生。如:
