Robert Pattinson, the teen idol star of the recently released Twilight movie, is finding it hard to cope with the attentions of his new fans. He plays Twilight's male lead, the handsome, brooding, and oh-so-romantic vampire Edward, an object of devotion for millions of pubescent girls looking for a bad boy who's a good boy at heart. He complained that at the film launch "there were some girls who had scratched the side of their necks so they were freshly bleeding when they came up to get a signature. They were like 'We did this for you.' I didn't know what to say. 'Um, thanks guys?'" and seems to have taken a cynical view of his character, who he described as a "108-year old virgin, so clearly he's got some issues."

Russell Brand, the bird's-nest haired ex-heroin addict comedian who has become one of the UK's biggest stars, was in trouble after appearing on his friend Jonathan Ross' radio show. This time, however, they went too far when they called Andrew Sachs, an elderly actor known for his portrayal of a Spanish waiter, Manuel, in the 70s comedy Fawlty Towers They left a series of messages on his answerphone, with Brand beginning the call with "In a minute we're going to be talking to Andrew Sachs, Manuel actor. The elephant in the room is, what Andrew doesn't know is, I've slept with his granddaughter."

Brand continued to make sexual references to Sachs' granddaughter, who is a burlesque dancer (and who did sleep with Brand) in a group called "The Satanic Sluts," throughout the calls, as well as jokingly suggesting that Sachs should hang himself. The resulting scandal dominated British tabloid headlines for days, caused demands for more rigorous screening of programs by the BBC, and resulted in Brand quitting his job and Ross being suspended for three months without pay.

Were you so wrapped up in the moment that you might have kissed him too?" and being told "That's a pretty silly question. No, obviously not." Brody shut down further questions, such as "Is there any actor for which you would have made an exception?" with a simple "No," and then got angry when the interviewer asked "So I guess I shouldn't ask if it's true what they say about a man with a prominent nose?" An infuriated Brody ended the interview.

However weird her Scientologist parents, Suri had turned out a cutie. Just behind her was Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, daughter of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who is reported to have received $4.1 million for a People magazine cover story on her. She's four; her already ultra-rich parents gave the money to charity.

O.J. Simpson Finally Goes To Jail

Over a decade after he was acquited for killing his wife, Nicole Brown-Simpson, and a young bystander, Ronald Goldman, former football star and comic actor O.J. Simpson was finally sentenced to jail last month for a separate crime. O.J. was not convicted for the original murders after the racism of the L.A. cops involved in the investigation - O.J. is black - was exposed. Most Americans believe that O.J., although found not guilty, was the real murderer. He lost a civil trial brought by Ron Goldman's parents, and had to pay millions of dollars of damages to them. In 2006, O.J. sold a book to HarperCollins called If I Did It, which claimed to be a fictional account of how he would have committed the murders if he did them, but which most people believed to effectively be a confession. Public outrage forced his publishers to cancel the book and take back the several million dollars they had paid O.J. for it.

Last September, O.J. was arrested again, this time in Las Vegas. He had broken into a room at gunpoint with friends, in order to retrieve sports memorabilia, some of it extremely valuable, which he claimed had originally been stolen from him. He was charged on several counts, including robbery with violence, and after a year-long trial process was found guilty last month on all counts. He was sentenced to a total of 33 years in prison, and is likely to be paroled in about 9 years. His lawyers are already planning an appeal.

Obsessed Fan's Suicide Drives Singer From House

Pop singer Paula Abdul is selling her Hollywood mansion after one of her fans committed suicide outside it. Abdul rose to fame with a string of forgettable pop hits in the 1980s, and then became a judge on the reality TV mega show American Idol. Her fan, Paula Goodspeed, had been obsessed with her for many years, bombarding her with letters and phone calls and covering her own house with pictures of the star. Goodspeed appeared on American Idol last season, performing a poorly-received version of the song "Proud Mary." Abdul criticised her singing and rejected her from the competition, while sarcastic fellow judge Simon Cowell mocked her braces, describing her as having "a mouth full of metal." Goodspeed then took an overdose in a car outside Abdul's house, with a picture of the singer dangling from her rearview mirror and a license plate reading ABL LV. Abdul was very disturbed by the tragedy, and says she does not wish to remain in the house.
