1 Set in Durham County in England during the 1984 1985 miners  strike， the film Billy Elliot is about a working class boy who discovers a passion for ballet. His father objects， based on negative stereotypes （刻板印象） of male ballet dancers.

2 The film tells a story beginning in 1984. Billy Elliot， an 11 year old boy， loves to dance and has hopes of becoming a professional ballet dancer. Billy lives with his father Jackie， whose wife is dead， and his older brother， Tony. Both of them are coal miners out on strike. His grandmother lives with them， who had once been dying to be a professional dancer.

3 Billy s father sends him to the gym to learn boxing， but Billy dislikes it. He happens to see a ballet class that is using the gym. Billy joins the ballet class secretly. When Jackie discovers this， he forbids Billy to take any more ballet classes. But passionate about dancing， Billy secretly continues his lessons with the help of his dance teacher， Sandra Wilkinson. Sandra believes that Billy is talented enough to study at the Royal Ballet School in London.

4 Once， Jackie catches Billy dancing in the gym. Seeing his son is truly gifted， he decides to do whatever it takes to help Billy realize his dream. Jackie s fellow miners and the neighbourhood raise some money， and Jackie pawns （典当） Billy s mother s jew ellery to cover the cost. Then Jackie takes Billy to London to audition.

5 Although very nervous， Billy performs well. Some time later， the Royal Ballet School sends Billy a letter of acceptance， coinciding with the end of the miners  strike. Therefore， Billy leaves home to study in London.

6 In 1998， 25 year old Billy takes the stage to perform as the Swan in Matthew Bourne s Swan Lake， as Jackie and Tony watch from the audience. Jackie is very moved by his performance.

2. Although very nervous， Billy performs well. 尽管很紧张，但是比利表现得很好。

【点石成金】本句中，Although very nervous相当于Although he is very nervous。当表时间、原因、让步等的状语从句的主语与主句的主语一致时，可将状语从句的主语和be动词同时省略。
