“I often spend more than three hours during one time on the net.”
“I spend more time in chat rooms than with my ‘real-life friends.”
Do you know any people like these? They are part of a new addiction called Internet addiction. Internet addicts spend at least thirty to forty hours online every week. The use of the Internet can be an addiction like drug use. People lose control of the time they spend on the Internet.
For example, one college student was missing for several days. His friends were worried, and they called the police. The police found the student in the computer lab: he was surfing the net for several days straight.
Studies show that about 6% to 10% of Internet users become addicted. And people worry about the teens because the Internet is changing the playing field for some of them. They spend more time in cyberspace (網络空间) than in the real world of friends and family.
Is “surfing the net” a hobby or an addiction for you? You may have a problem if you have these symptoms: ① You do not go to important family activities or you do not do school work because you like to spend hours on the Internet. ② You cant wait for your next online time. ③ You go out with your friends less and less. ④ You plan to spend a short time online, but then you spend several hours.

27. What does the last paragraph mainly tell us?
A. What to do about Internet addiction.
B. How to know whether you are addicted to the Internet.
C. Why one should surf the net less.
D. How to get away from the Internet.

It is quite reasonable to blame traffic jams, the cost of gas and the great speed of modern life, but manners on the road are becoming horrible. Everybody knows that the nicest men would become fierce (凶猛的) tigers behind the wheel. It is all right to have a tiger in a cage, but to have one in the drivers seat is another matter.
Road politeness is not only good manners, but also good sense. It takes the most cool-headed drivers great patience to give up the desire to beat back when forced to face rude driving. On the other hand, a little politeness goes a long way towards reducing the possibility of quarrelling. A friendly nod or a wave of thanks in answer to an act of politeness helps to create an atmosphere of good will and becomes so necessary in modern traffic conditions. But such behaviors of politeness are by no means enough. Many drivers nowadays dont even seem able to recognize politeness when they see it.
However, misplaced politeness can also be dangerous. A typical example is the driver who waves a child crossing the street at a wrong place into the path of oncoming cars that may be not able to stop in time. The same goes for encouraging old ladies to cross the road wherever and whenever they want to.
An experienced driver, whose manners are perfect, told me it would help if drivers learnt to correctly join in traffic stream (車流) without causing total blockages (堵塞) that give rise to unpleasant feelings.
Unfortunately, modern drivers cant even learn to drive. Years ago, experts warned us that the fast increase of the car ownership would demand more give-and-take from all road users. It is high time for all of us to take this message to heart.
32. According to the author, troubles on the road are often caused by ___ .
A. the bad road conditions
B. the large number of cars
C. the speed of modern life
D. the behaviors of the drivers
33. What can we learn from Paragraph 3?
A. Strict traffic rules are badly needed.
B. Road politeness helps reduce quarrelling.
C. Drivers should show road politeness properly.
D. Old ladies should be encouraged to cross the road.
34. The underlined word “give-and-take” in the last paragraph means “___”.
A. respecting for each other
B. quarrelling with each other
C. politeness and impoliteness
D. good manners and bad manners
35. What does the passage mainly talk about?
A. Traffic jams. B. Modern drivers.
C. Road politeness. D. Good manners.
第二节 阅读七选五(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
Scientists often see the first ten years of a childs life as the “window of opportunity”. And studies show that the following activities can benefit their brain greatly.
Free playtime has always been an important part of “being a kid”, but it is also important to a childs development. “Free play” not only helps kids develop different skills, it also helps them develop into happy healthy adults in the future.
Read with kids.
Reading has long been known to improve childrens intelligence. For parents who dont have much time, just surrounding your kids with books goes a long way too.
Put kids to bed early.
Preschool children should get at least eleven hours of sleep and kids up to age 12 should try to get at least ten hours of sleep.
Learn a second language.
Early studies in this field have shown that bilingual (雙语的) kids can perform better under pressure. Young children can learn new languages with nearly perfect fluency and pronunciation.
Praise good effort, not intelligence.
Your kids may be smart but you should mainly praise the effort they put into tasks. Kids, who are praised on intelligence, often feel it is a fixed quality, and mistakes or failures badly hurt their self-confidence. Kids who are praised on effort often focus more on learning.
A. Play some helpful games.
B. Give them enough playtime.
C. And they are not afraid to fail and try again.
D. Kids still need time away from the TV to do homework.
