Shanghai Metal Exchange Launched “P+N New Alliance”

On Dec., 12, 2018, led by Shanghai Nonferrous Metal Industry Association and organized by Shanghai Nonferrous Metal Exchange, the second edition of “Forum on The Development of Shanghai Nonferrous Metal Market” was held in Hyatt Regency. Centering on the subject of “Integration of Industries, Consistency of Spot and Futures Market”, the forum was dedicated to helping to build massive market and drive all industries.

In particular, Shanghai released “100 moves for expanding opening up” in July, of which the 26th move brings up that spot market of bulk stock should make great efforts to promote consistency of spot and futures market. Currently, supply chain companies, financial companies, affiliated companies of futures companies, warehousing logistics companies and regional markets have made according transformation and innovation. Our key topic is how to facilitate the combination of industries and finance and send Shanghai commodity market to a higher level.

General Manager of Shanghai Metal Exchange, Mr. Sun Yingmin pointed out in his speech: During the 13th Five-Year Plan, Shanghai should accelerate its construction of “Five Centers”, which is a superb opportunity for nonferrous metal market to develop.

He said that spot trading platform should conform to the changes of market. By being open and working together, we should integrate all key factors of market construction to realize sharing.

Sun Yingmin emphasized that “P+N New Alliance” has multiple roles. Through different combinations of factors, it provides multiple service models like preselling, bonded and duty-paid bill of lading, domestic and foreign spot commodity settlement by letter of credit, warehouse receipt exchange of futures and spot commodities and insured transactions of spot commodities and futures. In the future, “P+N New Alliance” is going play more roles. Its business products will be available to all platform users, providing modular one-to-one or many-to-one service models.

Therefore, Shanghai Metal Exchange officially launched “P+N New Alliance” that acts as the basis and integrates all types of industry chain resources including production, distribution, consumption, warehouse logistics, bank, supply chain, finance and futures. All kinds of companies work together to build diversified and multi-layered service model.

It is introduced that the affiliated company of Xinhu Futures entered the platform as market maker. It took futures price + platform premiums and discounts as pricing benchmark. Foshan Xinghai Copper and Aluminum Co. was delisted on the platform. The both parties accomplished the first order of the Alliance and closed the deal of 2000 tons of electrolytic copper at the volume of RMB 98.58 million.

He said that the model of “P+N Alliance” solved many problems for Xinhu such as warehousing, counterparty and pricing. China has great potential for the future development of bulk stock. He hopes to deepen the collaboration with Shanghai Metal Exchange so they can better serve nonferrous companies.
