翻译“学习”时区别study和learn

1.要增强学习本领，在全党营造善于学习、勇于实践的浓厚氛围，建设马克思主义学习型政党，推动建设学习大国。

We should be good at learning.We will foster a strong atmosphere of learning and practicing in the Party, and build our Party into a Marxist learning party.We will nurture a love of learning in our people.（此语境中用learn，不用study；study是研究性的学习，并不意味着是否信仰所学内容）

2.各级党组织和全体党员要带头遵法学法守法用法。

Every Party organization and every Party member must take the lead in respecting,learning about, observing, and applying the law.（“学法”英文未译为study law，其含义是专业学习或研究法律）

3.深化马克思主义理论研究和建设。

We will work harder tostudyand develop Marxist theory.

“素质教育”的翻译

1.发展素质教育

enhance our students’well-rounded development（有高校将其直译为suzhi education是错误的）

2.大力提高国民素质

promote thewell-rounded developmentof all our people

用地道的专业词汇翻译

“贫困发生率”曾译为poverty occurrence rate、poverty incidence rate，最后定为poverty headcount ratio。以下是英文定义：Poverty headcount ratio is the most common method of measuring and reporting poverty, given as the percentage of population that is below the poverty line.

贫困发生率从百分之十点二下降到百分之四以下。

The poverty headcount ratio has dropped from 10.2 percent to less than 4 percent.

这说明掌握一定的专业术语十分重要。□
