At the eleventh hour是什么意思？

1.at the eleventh hour在最后时刻；在紧要关头

这个短语的字面意思是“第11小时”。它来自《圣经·新约·马太福音》中耶稣对门徒讲的一则寓言。Eleventh hour既不是指上午11点，也不是指夜晚11点，而是相当于日落前的下午5点，即白天12小时工作日的“第11小时”。后来被喻指“最后时刻”。因此，at the eleventh hour现在用来表示“在最后时刻”，有时还引申为“在紧要关头”，而eleventh-hour decision则指“在最后一刻作出的决定”。
