The land-marking significance of “Great Intelligence”

On December 5, 2017, the world’s first intelligent merchant ship, iDolphin type 38,800 ton intelligent bulk carrier “Great Intelligence” were officially released at the China International Maritime Exhibition. This vessel is an innovative product of the CSSC Intelligent Ship Demonstration Project and is the first ship to be built according to CCS Rules for Intelligent Ships and applied for CCS Intelligent Ship notation I-SHIP (N, M, E, I). Its technical performance has reached the world's leading level.

“Great Intelligence” is a Smart Dolphin 38,800 ton intelligence upgraded demonstration ship, developed by CSSC Guangzhou Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd, Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute,China Shipbuilding Systems Engineering Research Institute, China Shipbuilding Research Institute Co.,Ltd., Hudong Heavy Machinery Co., Ltd jointly with China Classification Society and Lloyd's Register. The ship achieved breakthroughs in the key technologies of information sharing, independent assessment and decision-making and ship-shore integration, and completed the independent research and integrated application of the whole ship intelligent network system,intelligent operation and maintenance system, intelligent navigation system and host remote control system, and realized the automatic perception of data information such as the ship itself and the marine environment, as well as ship intelligent operation and management of ship-shore integration, the technical index of intelligence of the whole ship has reached the world advanced level.

As the world's first intelligent ship, “ Great Intelligence”launched a new overall design concept of the ship.According to the relevant people of CSSC Guangzhou Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd, the ship has created a brand new concept of ship design, construction and operation and completed the independent research and development of key core systems such as ship intelligent integrated information platform, intelligent operation and maintenance system and intelligent navigation as well as integrated application. It was installed with the world’s first low-speed host which meets the smart ship standard and China’s first selfdeveloped intelligent host remote control system. All above mentioned smart software and hardware can reduce operating fuel consumption, substantially reduce cabin equipment accidents, shorten equipment maintenance time and provide ship owners with a full range of digital technology and decision-making optimization services to enhance the safety, environmental protection, economy,comfort and intelligence of the ship thus promoting the energy efficiency and operational efficiency of the fleet.

采用生物统计学SPSS19.0软件对本次试验记录到的统计数据进行处理,剂量资料以(±s)表示,采用t检验;计数资料以相对数(%)表示,采用卡方检验。以P<0.05为差异有统计学意义。

The “ability to think” of “ Great Intelligence ” is mainly reflected in the following aspects. First is intelligent navigation. The intelligent navigation system of the ship can obtain the information and data of the ship itself,the ocean current, the weather, the port, the navigation and so on, and provides four route optimization decision aids such as saving time, fuel economy, comfort and low comprehensive cost with continually updated solution.Second is smart cabin. Through the ship intelligent operation and maintenance system as well as its affiliated health management system, smart cabin can assess the health status of the ship equipment in real time,identify potential problems in advance and offer efficient solutions. In this way, the system becomes more reliable with no malfunction in its management. Third is smart energy efficiency system. Smart energy efficiency system can monitor and analyze the energy consumption of marine navigation in real time, analyze the performance status of equipment, provide data-based energy efficiency analysis results, and offer optimization suggestions for routes or stowage thud reducing the overall energy costs.

According to Qiu Bohua, the director of Marine Intelligence Technology Center of China Shipbuilding Industry System Engineering Research Institute, “ Great Intelligence ” was installed with the world's first selflearning ship intelligent operation and maintenance system (SOMS). By using sensors, Internet of things,machine learning and other technical means, the whole system of the ship and equipment can achieve information fusion and sharing through high speed data transmission via fiber optic networks. SOMS system contains more than 110 intelligent data analysis model, with 34 patents and in response to user's needs, it can offer low-cost and customized personalized applications. With the increase of sailing experiences and data accumulates, “Great Intelligence ” will become more intelligent. For example,by using the unique real-time health assessment and early warning analysis tools as well as the trend prediction model, “Great Intelligence ” can discover the hidden trouble of complex marine equipment ahead of time.Through above mentioned application, it can reveal not only the reason of the problem but also the key parameter so as to help the crew to eliminate the potential safety hazard effectively and offer optimized route decision suggestions for comfort and low cost.

It is worth mentioning that the ship’s cabin has obtained the CCS Intelligent Cabin Class I-Ship (M) and LR Intelligent Class notation and the ship is the world’s first real intelligent ship in the world. The successful launch of the ship marks the official arrival of the era of intelligent ships and shipping.
