A
Liao Fan is a risk taker. It is hard to detect a common theme running through the more than 50 roles he has done on screen and stage.
“I never thought about commonality,” says the prolific actor. “I took whatever came along. I didnt have much choice then. As long as the role was interesting, Id take it. Now that I think about it, the leading roles I took tended to be losers who lived on the edge. They are intense and need an outlet, sometimes resorting to extreme means.”
Liao just won the Silver Bear for Best Actor at the 2014 Berlin International Film Festival, the first time a Chinese actor was so feted in this category. He is not considered leading man material, having appeared in only a handful of big roles on screen in his career. Yet, he pops up in so many movies and television dramas, albeit in supporting parts, that both his name and his face are recognizable to many people. His win of the coveted Berlin kudos has been jokingly nicknamed “the revenge of the second banana”.
He does not mind. “The second banana is indispensable anyway,” he quips.
When news of his surprise win reached his homeland, social media went abuzz with notes of congratulations—from those who seemingly had known him for a long time. The press counted the guest list when Huayi Brothers, a film company that cast him in several earlier movies, threw a celebration party for him upon his return, and concluded those who attended were his “real” friends, not fairweather ones hogging the coverage.
However, for those who put some heart into watching Liaos performances in roles big or small would not be taken aback by his victory. No matter how fleeting his screen time, he is able to make it juicy and add an imprint with his unique portrayal.

BEIJING (Reuters)—A senior Malaysia Airlines executive said on Wednesday that the airline has “no reason to believe” that any actions by the crew caused the disappearance of a jetliner over the weekend.
The search for the jetliner, which vanished on a flight between Kuala Lumpur and Beijing, expanded further into the Andaman and South China Seas on Wednesday, with authorities no closer to explaining what happened to the plane or the 239 people on board.
With no concrete evidence to explain the planes disappearance, authorities have not ruled out anything.
Police have said they were investigating whether any passengers or crew on the plane had personal or psychological problems that might shed light on the mystery, along with the possibility of a hijacking, sabotage or mechanical failure.
Hugh Dunleavy, the commercial director of Malaysia Airlines, said the captain in charge of the flight was a very seasoned pilot with an excellent record.
“There have been absolutely no implications that we are aware of that there was anything untoward in either his behavior or attitude,” Dunleavy told Reuters in an interview.
“We have no reason to believe that there was anything, any actions, internally by the crew that caused the disappearance of this aircraft.”
Dunleavy said he was skeptical of a report by a South African woman who said the copilot of the missing plane, Farid Ab Hamid, had invited her and a female travelling companion to sit in the cockpit during a flight two years ago, in an apparent breach of security.
“Because just getting into that area requires you to go through the secure doors that we have in the cabin all the time,” he said.
“And not only would that have been unusual, but it also would have meant youd have to walk by our cabin crew as well, and have the code to get through. So Im dubious, but Im going to let the authorities investigate and tell us what happened.”
The airline earlier said it was taking seriously the report by the woman, Jonti Roos, who said in an interview with Australias Channel Nine TV that she and her friend were invited to fly in the cockpit by Fariq and the pilot of a flight between Phuket, Thailand, and Kuala Lumpur in December 2011.
The TV channel showed pictures of the four apparently in a planes cockpit.
The airline will give $5,000 per passenger to cover hotel expenses of relatives awaiting news, Dunleavy added.
The relatives, who have been staying at hotels near a Beijing airport since the plane went missing on Saturday, have angrily accused the airline of keeping them in the dark. Malaysia Airlines said at least 152 of the 227 passengers on flight MH370 were Chinese.

London Taxi Co, the Chineseowned taxi maker, has said its determined to stand up to rivals after Londons taxi market enters a new era of zero emissions.
LTC, which dominates Londons taxi market with its TX4 model, will face new competition from four companies that are producing zeroemission taxis to comply with new regulation set to kick in by 2018.
LTC has revealed its plans to launch a zeroemission taxi model by 2018, which will be a plugin extended range electric taxi, with its exterior in the same recognizable shape of Londons black cabs.
London Mayor Boris Johnson recently announced that all new London taxis to be made from 2018 onward will be zeroemission capable.
To achieve this goal, the mayor and Transport for London—the local government body in charge of Greater Londons transport system—have been working with five companies to develop new taxis, including LTC, Frazer Nash, Nissan, Karsan and Mercedes.
Currently, the LTC TX4 and the Mercedes Vito are the only two available black cab models in the London market.
There were almost 23,000 black cabs licensed to operate in London at the beginning of January, with the Mercedes Vito accounting for 2,177 and the rest made by LTC.
Peter Johansen, vicepresident of UK operations at LTC, said his company is well prepared for the new challenges.
He said LTCs longer expertise in the taxi industry gives it an advantage, as all its taxis are purpose built, so they last more than vanconverted taxis.
Rob Laidler, director of UK retail at LTC, added that LTCs large network of welltrained support and repair technicians in the UK also allow it to provide better aftersales service to drivers. The company currently has 50 dealers in the UK.
LTC was founded in the English city of Coventry in 1899, and in 2013 the company was acquired by Chinas Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co Ltd.
To help LTC develop environmentally friendly taxis, Geely said its committed to invest 200 million pounds ($327 million) to help LTC develop greentaxi technology over the next five years.
Meanwhile, other taxi companies plan to challenge LTCs leading position. British manufacturer Metrocab is currently developing zeroemission taxis, which it expects to launch in 2015.
Sheban Siddiqi, Metrocabs business development manager, said the new model will help taxi drivers to save money compared with LTCs current TX4 model.
“LTC has been recognized as the black cab company for some years, but the TX4 is quite outdated in technology. The world is moving forward and we have to look at new technology,” Siddiqi said.
TLCs TX4 model is the cleanest London taxi to date. It emits 99 percent fewer diesel particulates and 80 percent less nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxide than its predecessors two decades ago.
44. What new competition will LTC face?
A. earn more money with its limited taxis.
B. bring new technology to its taxis.
C. produce zeroemission taxis.
D. plan to bring new technology to its taxis.
45. What advantage does LTC have over other taxies?

B. LTCs new technology in the taxi industry.
C. LTCs long history in the taxi industry.

B. LTC plans to launch a zeroemission taxi model by 2018.
C. Metrocab expects to launch zeroemission taxis in 2018.

Being a woman in your 20s is a glorious thing. Youre at a stage where you can take risks in life and in your career, and the possibilities for both are seemingly endless. But that uncertainty can also cause stress, doubt (cough, quarterlife crisis, cough), and anxiety over whether youll ever reach your goals or truly have it all. So for all those times you just want to throw up your hands in frustration, this advice is for you. Read on, and know that its all going to be OK.
Dufu says one of the greatest pieces of advice she ever received was about her constant worrying. “My mentor said, ‘If you would spend less time worrying about choices you dont have and actually creating those choices, you would be better off. You know that dynamic of worrying about moving to a new city when you havent even applied to the job? Take that energy and instead apply it to the job application or interview.”
There might be no getting around the dreaded quarterlife crisis, but Dufu says connecting with people who are going through, or have already gone through, the same thing is crucial. “You need someone to tell you youre not going crazy, people who have already been there, done that—who know its going to be OK and can help you achieve clarity through guidance and encouragement.” she says.
A woman can have it all in the traditional sense, says Dufu, who herself has a marriage, job, two kids, and a healthy lifestyle. But, she says, she sacrifices other things—like attending events—to do so. The question shouldnt be, “Can you have it all?” but rather, “Can you have whats important to you?” she says. “The answer is yes if you can prioritize and not try to live by someone elses expectations. Because every woman has a list of things she feels like shes supposed to be doing, and some people manage it by creating more time in the day for themselves or by shortening that list to certain core things.”
You may not have said, “You go, girl,” since the eighth grade, but Dufu makes a strong case for bringing back the phrase. “We are susceptible to what our peers say, and what they tell us can be the difference between applying for a job or not,” she says. “Sometimes you need a woman saying, Girl, you need to go for that, because encouragement and a community of trust is really important. We think we have to do things by ourselves, but the truth is your advancement is a team sport, and you have to have people supporting you.”
48. Which of the following is closest in meaning to the underlined word “glorious”?
A. Young.B. Wonderful.
C. Possible.D. Stressful.
49. According to Dufus opinion, which of the following is true?
A. It is better to spend less time worrying about choices.
B. It is useful to apply your energy to the job application.
C. It is important to connect with people who are going through.
D. It is no use worrying these frustrations for they will pass quickly.
50. The passage is mainly about .
A. How a woman should in her 20s take risks in life?
B. How a woman should in her 20s get rid of pressure?
C. How a woman should in her 20s get support?
D. How a woman should in her 20s live her life?
四、任务型阅读(共10小题,每小题1分,满分10分)
请认真阅读下列短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词。注意:每个空格只填一个单词。请将答案写在答题卡上相应的横线上。
The other day my aunt paid me a visit. She was overjoyed. “I got the highest mark in the midterm examination!” she said. Dont be surprised! My aunt is indeed a student, to be exact, a college student at the age of 45.
Last year, she put aside her private business and signed up for a oneyear fulltime management course in a college. “This was the wisest decision I have ever made!” she said proudly like a teenage girl. To her, college is always a right place to pick up new ideas, and new ideas always make her feel young.
“Compared with the late ‘70s,” she says, “now college students have many doors.” My aunt cannot help but recall her first college experience in 1978 when college doors began to be reopened after the Cultural Revolution. She was assigned to study engineering despite her desire to study Chinese literature, and a few years later, the government sent her to work in a TV factory.
I was shocked when she first told me how she had had no choice in her major and job. Look at us today! So many doors are open to us! I believe there have never been such abundant opportunities for selfdevelopment as we have today. And my aunt told me that we should reach our goals by grasping all these opportunities.
The first door I see is the opportunity to study different kinds of subjects that interest us. My aunt said she was happy to study management, but she was also happy that she could attend lectures on ancient Chinese poetry and on Shakespearean drama. As for myself, I am an English major, but I may also go to lectures on history. To me, if college education in the past emphasized specialization, now, it emphasizes free and wellrounded development of each individual. So all the fine achievements of human civilization are open to us.
The second door is the door to the outside world. Learning goes beyond classrooms and national boundaries. My aunt remembers her previous college days as monotonous and even calls her generation “frogs in a well.” But today, as the world becomes a global village, it is important that our neighbours and we be openminded to learn with and from each other. I have many fellow international classmates, and I am applying to an exchange program with a university abroad. As for my aunt, she is planning to get an MBA degree in the U.K. where her daughter, my cousin, is now doing her Masters degree in biochemistry. We are now taking the opportunity to study overseas, and when we come back, well put to use what we have learnt abroad.
The third door is the door to lifelong learning. As new ideas appear all the time, we always need to acquire new knowledge, regardless of our age. Naturally, my aunt herself is the best example. Many of my aunts contemporaries say that she is amazingly uptodate for a middleaged woman. She simply responds, “Age doesnt matter. What matters is your attitude. You may think its strange that I am still going to college, but I dont think Im too old to learn.” Yes, she is right. Since the government removed the age limit for college admissions in 2001, there are already some untraditional students, sitting with us in the same classrooms. Like these people, my aunt is old but she is very young in spirit. With incredible energy and determination, she embodies both tradition and modernity.
The doors open to us also pose challenges. For instance, we are faced with the challenge of a balanced learning, the challenge of preserving our fine tradition while learning from the West, and the challenge of learning continuously while carrying heavy responsibilities to our work and family. So, each door is a test of our courage, ability and judgment, but with the support of my teachers, parents, friends and my aunt, I believe I can meet the challenge head on. When I reach my aunts age, I can be proud to say that I have walked through dozens of doors and will, in the remainder of my life, walk through many more. Possibly I will go back to college, too.Title(51) to Present College StudentsTheme(52) with the late 70s, now college students have many doors.Three

五、One possible version:
65% of us agree that we should do exercise. What is known to all is that doing exercise can produce a kind of chemical, which can relax our minds. Besides, doing exercise provides us with relaxation after hard study, which reduces the tiredness. Whats more, doing exercise can also improve our immune system, which strengthens our body both physically and mentally.
On the other hand, 35% of the students hold the opposite opinion. They dont think they can get the expected results by doing exercise, as the break between classes is short. Doing exercise can make them feel exhausted and delay their class. In addition, by making full use of the short break, students can ask questions and review their lessons in time. Besides, whats needed during the break is peace instead of the noisy produced by the music. Whats worse, in class some students are still lost in the music they have just heard.
From my point of view, doing regular exercise between classes is a good way to relax ourselves from study. However, great attention should be paid to the form of exercise.
