This empirical study aims to explore the relationship between English classroom anxiety and English classroom willingness to communicate by using questionnaires and interviews with 218 college physical educational majors. It is found that the physical educational majors have experienced the high level classroom anxiety and low to medium level willingness to communicate. Moreover, students anxieties are negatively correlated with their willingness to communicate. In addition, the regression analysis found that communication apprehension and classroom frights restrain the willingness to communicate. Research findings of the study demonstrate that the English teachers should pay close attention to physical educational majors English anxiety and help them to alleviate the impeding anxieties to improve their English confidence as well as develop their English willingness to communicate.

With the methods of quantitative and qualitative analysis, this paper reflects on the construction and practice of the Overall Assessment Mode on students achievement in the course of “A Brief Introduction to British and American Culture” in the past year. It discovers that the new assessment mode has enriched the means and criteria to evaluate students performance, promoted teachers to update their teaching philosophy and improved their teaching methods. Meanwhile, it has helped students to renew their learning views and ways and thus has won their recognition. However, the proportion of Formative Assessment should be increased, with its reliability and validity to be ensured in the future. Moreover, students self-assessment must be strengthened to make them play fully their role as the evaluation main body.

This paper conducted a genre analysis of the method sections of 62 empirical documents on college English reading ability retrieved from 10 CSSCI journals in 2004~2013. The results show that these documents have a comparatively consistent structure with 5 basic moves while with 4 selective moves or steps. We hope this paper can be insightful for the college English learners who are interested in the empirical study of college English reading ability and can follow the academic writing rules concerning the method sections of empirical study.

Online peer review has been a hot topic in todays college English writing teaching. Grouping is one of the most important factors that affect peer review result. Various personal factors may lead to different performance in a peer review, which may affect other team members. This paper is based on a statistical analysis of 5 months peer review work of 72 students in the most used way of peer review in China—anonymous and asynchronous peer review. The purpose is to investigate how three personal factors, namely English level, writing motivation and cognitive styles, affect the learners performance in peer review in order to provide some foundation for scientific grouping in the future. The result shows that the three factors do have different influence on provided comments, types of comments and correction rate, therefore the paper argues that personal factors must be considered in peer review grouping for better peer review result.

Based on the construal theory of cognitive linguistics, this article probes into the genitive construction in English, finding that the reason for the linguistic construction comes from the fact that the English speakers, when using the genitive noun to modify the head noun, set a certain scope for the head noun, have some qualia roles of the head noun activated, take either active or passive perspectives and use comparatively low specifity occasionally.
