In the depths of my memory, many things I did with my father still live. These things come to represent, in fact, what I call __1__ and love.

On August 26, 1999, New York City was struck by a terrible rainstorm. The rain caused the streets to __1__ and the subway system almost came to a stop.

Unfortunately, this happened during the morning rush hour. Many people who were going to work were __2__ to go home. Some battled to __3__ a taxi or to get on a bus. Still others faced the __4__ bravely, walking miles to get to work.
