When Jane Eyre was little, she lost her parents. Her uncle, Mr Reed, took her in. But soon he died. His wife, Mrs Reed, was mean to Jane and sent her away to Lowood school.

Tomorrow at six in the morning, you have to leave my house and go to Lowood School!

Lowood School was a rough(艰苦的) place. Jane had a really hard time there.

I’m so cold! The porridge(粥)is too burnt(烧糊的) to eat!

However, Jane made a good friend, Helen. One day, Jane was wrongly called a liar(骗子) and got punished. She cried in the classroom. Helen tried to cheer her up.

Helen, why do you stay with a girl whom everybody believes to be a liar?

If everyone thought you were bad and didn’t like you, but you knew you were good, you would still have friends.

Their kind teacher, Miss Temple, also came to see Jane. She invited Jane and Helen to her room. She asked Jane to tell her the truth.

I know Mr Lloyd. I will write him a letter. If he says the same thing, I will tell everyone the truth.

My aunt said I was a liar, but I wasn’t. She was always mean to me. She even locked(锁) me in a dark room, and I fainted(晕倒). Doctor Lloyd can prove it.

Then, Miss Temple talked with Helen. They talked about things Jane didn’t know: old countries, nature’s secrets, and many books! Knowledge(知识) made them look shiny.

How many they have read! They know so much!

Two weeks later, Miss Temple heard from Mr Lloyd. He said Jane was telling the truth. Miss Temple called all the teachers and students together.

It has been proven that Jane Eyre is not a liar!

I felt much better after that day. With help from good friends and teachers, I worked hard and made progress quickly.
