第二部分阅读理解(共两节,满分50分)

第一节 (共15小题;每小题25分,满分375分)

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

A

Praia da Falésia in the Algarve, Portugal is known for its dramatic red, sandy cliffs(懸崖) and golden sand. It has finished in the first place at the Travelers' Choice Awards 2024, ahead of impressive locations in the Caribbean, Australia and the Seychelles.

The Algarve is a top choice among travelers seeking warmth and sun even during the winter months. The Olhos de Agua region, where you'll find Praia da Falésia, has a Mediterranean climate with long hot summers and relatively short winters.

For the most heat, the best time to visit is between June and August. The hottest month of the year is July, which has an average high of 30℃ and an average low of 22℃. February is the coldest month of the year, but you would still be able to wear a T-shirt outdoors. The average high is 16℃ and an average low of 10℃.

For a shopping lover, visit Albufeira's old town—Avenida Dr Francisco Sa Carneiro—for souvenirs(纪念品) and clothes. You can also find an open-air mall named Algarve Shopping, where you can buy anything from pottery to a new dress, as well as local bars and restaurants, like Planet Fusion, The Three Harps and Symbiosis.

The west side of the awardwinning beach is where you'll find the high red cliffs. This part is also referred to as Aoteias and a highly rated hotel in this area is the Epic Sana Algarve Beach Hotel. The east side of Praia da Falésia, towards Vilamoura, is referred to as Alfamar because of the nearby Alfamar Beach & Sport Resort. The lower parts of the cliffs can be found here, along with shallow waters where activities like paragliding, diving and surfing take place.

1. When can you experience the hottest weather?

A. July.B. June.C. August.D. February.

2. What can you do in Avenida Dr Francisco Sa Carneiro?

A. Play good sand.B. Buy new dress.

C. Enjoy warm sun.D. Have a good drink.

记T1={i|ai-a~i=bi-1,i=2,3,…,N-1},T2={i|ai-a~i=-bi+1+1,i=2,3,…,N-1},则T1∩T2=,且T1∪T2={2,3,…,N-1}.

注意到:若存在j∈T2且2≤j≤N-2,即aj-a~j=-bj+1+1,则j+1∈T2.否则,若j+1∈T1,则aj+1-a~j+1=bj+1-1=-(-bj+1+1)=-(aj-a~j),不合题意.

因此,集合T1,T2有以下三种情形:

①T1={2,3,…,N-1},T2=.对任意i∈{2,3,…,N-1},有bi≥2,则aN=a1+(b2+b3+…+bN-1)+bN≥0+(N-2)·2+1=2N-3,当且仅当b2=b3=…=bN-1=2时,bN=1,

即A:0,2,4,…,2N-4,2N-3时,等号成立,此时存在“强紧数列”A~:0,1,3,…,2N-3,

故此情形下,aN的最小值为2N-3.

②T1={2,3,…,k},T2={k+1,k+2,…,N-1},其中k=2,3,…,N-2.对任意i∈T1,有bi≥2,对任意j∈T2,有bj+1≥2.

aN=a1+(b2+b3+…+bk)+bk+1+(bk+2+bk+3…+bN)≥0+(k-1)·2+1+(N-k-1)·2=2N-3.

故此情形下,aN的最小值不小于2N-3.

③T1=,T2={2,3,…,N-1}.对任意i∈{2,3,…,N-1},有bi+1≥2,

aN=a1+b2+(b3+b4…+bN)≥0+2+(N-2)·2=2N-2>2N-3.

故此情形下,aN的最小值不小于2N-3.

綜上,aN的最小值为2N-3.

I like to knit(编织) every single day. I'll turn the TV on—usually just the news—while I make many things like hats and little toy chickens. My favorite thing to make are chickens. In fact, I've been doing them for almost 50 years.

I do this to sell them and raise money for charity, especially for National Health Service(NHS). As a 76yearold retired clerk working at Barnsley Hospital, it's a cause close to my heart. As I love knitting, this type of fundraising never feels like a hard work.

I first picked up the needles at five when my grandmother taught me how to knit. Immediately, I absolutely loved it and couldn't get enough. Some of my friends at school and people I've met at various social events over the years loved it, too. So it's been a great way to connect with others.

One day, a relative of mine saw my little creations and took one chicken to her colleagues. She rang me that evening and said. “I think you'd better sit down. We want 600 chickens.” I almost had a heart attack! Especially because it was only three weeks when they wanted them done. So I called on some friends of mine to help and we finally completed the order.

Ever since, I've also raised money through knitting with five friends, including my granddaughter Ashley. We knitted to raise money for Barnsley Hospital Charity's “Make a Memory Appeal”, which supports people living with dementia. We've helped raise close to £100,000 for charity.

Last year, I actually won Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust's Proud of Barnsley award in the Hospital Hero category. I felt very honored, but I couldn't do it all on my own. Besides my friends, I must thank my family driving me to buy wool, helping to sell my creations or posting on social media for me.

D. To have a connection with others.

6. How did the author feel after hearing her relative's words?

A. Tired and delighted.

B. Excited and amused.

Imagine picking up a new book that you're excited to read, feeling comfortable in your favorite spot, and turning to the last chapter. While most readers open to page one, there are many people who jump right into the most interesting part of the book—the end—before going back to the beginning and starting from there.

Because doing that changes the overall experience of reading the book, some people say readers should always begin with the first chapter. Others think starting at the end is perfectly up to the mark and may even be the best way to read a book.

There are many different ways to enjoy a book and none of them are wrong. Starting with the last pages makes some readers even more curious about the story and helps them decide whether the book is worth reading. Other people don't like to be in doubt or worry about what happens to the characters. Reading ahead helps them relax, enjoy the book, and really appreciate the writing----similar to when people reread a book and get more out of it the second time. Some people also enjoy the excitement of guessing exactly how the story will reach an ending they already know.

Books are meant to be read in the order in which they're written. Part of the enjoyment of reading a good book is following the action from start to finish, discovering new information about the story and characters bit by bit, and being surprised by the plot. Reading the last chapter first is disrespectful to the author, who put in a lot of effort and wrote the book in a specific way for a reason. And if you know the ending, you have to avoid destroying it for other people who are reading it. That means it's safer not to discuss it with them even though talking about a book can be a big part of the fun of reading it.

8. What does the underlined words “up to the mark” mean in paragraph 2?

A. Funny.B. Remarkable.

C. Acceptable.D. Disappointing.

9. What's the author's attitude to starting reading at the end?

A. The fun of reading with the last pages.

B. The reasons of reading with the last pages.

C. The processes of reading with the last pages.

D. The importance of reading with the last pages.

11. Why do some people enjoy starting with the beginning?

A. They have much time to read the book written in order.

B. They have a strong desire to know the writers' true ability.

C. They have a really patient mind to follow the book bit by bit.

D. They have enjoyment from getting new things from the book.

When two rats began taking their own photos with a camera attached to their cage, artist Augustin Lignier said he felt “super powerful.”

As a part of his graduate study, Lignier bought two rats from a pet store in France where he lives, and built them a complicated cage. Using a way that gave the rats sugar whenever they pressed a button, he trained them to take pictures of themselves, and, in the process, produced a commentary on the ideas of pleasure, reward and the addictive behaviors caused by social media.

Lignier based his cage design on the “Skinner Box”, a device invented by American psychologist B.F. Skinner to study animal behavior. The artist said he drew inspiration from scientific experiments, developed by Skinner during the 1950s that trained animals to complete complex tasks. As the two rats—which Lignier named Augustin and Arthur—began exploring their new environment, they would randomly touch the button that gave them sugar. A week later, they began to understand the positive effect of pressing the button, associating it with the sugar hit.

Once they understood this, Lignier moved them to a normal cage — with the intention of making the animals forget about the sugar — before moving them back into the original cage. But at this time the button didn't release sugar every time it was pressed.

Instead, the sugar release was randomized but because the rat's brain “associates pleasure to sugar and sugar to the button. They touch it,” Lignier said, adding that the rats would sometimes press the button for sugar more than once a minute. Giving randomized rewards in return for taking selfies(自拍) mirrored the strategies used by social media companies and dating apps to keep users coming back.

“Every time the rats push the button, they have dopamine(多巴胺) in their brain and then it records the exact moment they were touching it,” Lignier said. “I was fascinated by this.”

12. What is the author's purpose of mentioning social media?

A. To review the logic of Lignier's study.

B. To compare Lignier's different studies.

C. To show an application of Lignier's idea.

D. To make Lignier's research better understood.

13. What made BFSkinner invent Skinner Box?

A. To display his ability.

B. To do research on animal behavior.

C. To live a meaningful life.

D. To complete complex animal tasks.

14. The rats have no sugar reward if .

A. They are full enough

B. They fight with each other

C. They are in a normal cage

D. They touch the wrong button

15. What is the best title of the passage?

A. Lignier's Graduate Study

第二節(共5小题;每小题25分,满分125分)

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

The scientists at the University of Massachusetts Amherst has recently shown that nearly any material can be turned into a device that continuously harvests electricity from wetness in the air.

The air contains a huge amount of electricity. Think of a cloud, which is nothing more than a mass of water droplets.If the scientists can create a humanbuilt cloud that produces electricity continuously, it can be harvested.

The heart of the human-made cloud depends on what the scientists call the “generic Airgen effect”: literally any kind of material can harvest electricity from air if it has a certain property.It should have holes less than a thousandth of the width of a human hair, which is about 100 nm(纳米).

It would be made from a thin layer of material full of holes smaller than 100 nm. The holes would let water molecules(分子) pass from the upper to the lower part of the material. Each hole is so small that the water molecules would easily run into the hole's edge. Because they pass through the thin layer. So the upper part of the layer would be attacked by many more chargecarrying water molecules than the lower part, creating a charge imbalance, as the upper part increased its charge relative to the lower part. This would effectually create a battery, which runs if there's any wetness in the air.

Since wetness is everpresent, the harvester would run anytime and anywhere. It solves one of the major problems of technologies like wind or solar.

Imagine a future world where clean electricity is available anywhere you go. The generic Airgen effect means that this future world can be a reality.

A. What is that property?

B. How to make electricity?

C. Each tiny drop contains a charge.

D. They only work under certain conditions.

E. Scientists can design a good electricity harvester.

F. Based on this number, an electricity harvester can be designed.

G. It opens a wide door for harvesting clean electricity from thin air.

第二节 (满分 25 分)

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I've wanted to be a fashion designer since I was 12. I remembered being on holiday in Rome, and seeing billboards of Alexander McQueen's Plato's Atlantis line. The campaign was a combination of the human and the sea creature, and reminded me of Disney's The Little Mermaid(美人魚)—my favorite film. It's difficult to explain, but I knew thendeep down in my heart—that my life was about to change forever.

From the age of 13, my mum started buying me copies of Vogue magazine. I headed down to my local beach, where I poured over its shiny pages. The beach was my favorite place, and I spent hours absorbing myself in the magazine, tracing outlines of high-end design with my fingers. Inspired by the magazine, I started drawing anything that would come to my mind—dresses, bags and patterns.

My mum worked hard for me to spend summers at Central Saint Martins' summer school in London to study fashion styling, and was supportive of my dream. But I have dyspraxia(运动障碍), and at 16 I was told I shouldn't even apply for art school because of it. As a result, I never expected it to progress past more than just a fun hobby that I loved and helped me relieve my stress.

At the age of 23, I went to Brighton to study print design, and then moved to Los Angeles. I spent most of my time in Venice Beach—drawing designs on my iPad, hoping that I could eventually create a career out of something I truly loved.Every night I went to bed imagining my drawings on the billboards I'd seen in Rome, and on the catwalks of fashion weeks across the world. I dreamed of making my lifetime of drawing more than just a hobby. In January 2024, I moved back to South Wales and lived with my mother.

注意:

1.续写词数为150左右;

Dear Peter,

Our school will hold an activity called Writing Spring Festival Couplets in the school hall next Sunday. As you are interested in Chinese calligraphy, I'm writing to invite you to join us.

This activity will be scheduled to start at 9 am, lasting for three hours. An expert will deliver a speech about Spring Festival couplets. After that, students and teachers interested in Chinese calligraphy will write Spring Festival couplets together. Anyone who is present at the activity can ask the calligraphers to write whatever he wants.

I sincerely hope you will accept my invitation. Looking forward to your reply.

Yours,

Li Hua

I broke the news to my mum that I wanted to be a fashion designer. It came to my mind that my mum would support me as she was always my biggest cheerleader and supporter of my life goal. My mum said to me in her soft but firm voice, “How happy I am as you have determination to pursue your goal. I will support whatever you do.” I hugged my mum immediately, smiling from ear to ear. I began to draw day and night, sending my designs to a lot of fashion magazines, anticipating to join them.

My jaw dropped when I saw a famous designer contact me in an email. This designer was very familiar to me as he often appeared in the Vogue magazine. In the email, he said he thought highly of my designs, hoping that I could join him in his team to set up a Design House to sell the bags online. I shared the news with my mum, who couldn't help crying and took pride in me. What was the most vital thing for me was that I finally realized my dream of becoming a designer.
