含“more”的常用短语归纳

在英语中，“more ”一词的使用频率较高。对此，笔者就含“more ”的常用短语进行了归纳，以期对同学们的学习有所帮助。

一、what s more

what s more 是常见的插入语，意为“更重要的是，另外，而且”，表示递进，以进一步补充信息，相当于“besides”“in addition”。例如：

What s more，we should learn how to manage our times.

更重要的是，我们应该学习如何管理时间。

What s more，doing some housework is a kind of physical exercise.

另外，做家务是一种体育锻炼。

What s more，I m easy going and love to meet new friends.

而且，我性格随和，喜欢认识新朋友。

二、more or less

more or less意为“或多或少，差不多，基本上，大约，大概”等。例如：

They ve more or less finished the job.

这个活儿他们差不多干完了。

Everybody felt more or less thirsty.

大家几乎都感到有些口渴。

It took me more or less two days to paint the house.

粉刷房子大概花了我两天时间。

三、more and more

more and more意为“越来越多的”时，强 调数量，其后常接名词；意为“越来越……”时，强调程度上，其后常接形容词、副词。例如：

More and more people are using WeChat.

越来越多的人在使用微信。

National Day is coming，and the children are becoming more and more excited.

国庆节要来了，孩子们越来越兴奋。

In China，the population is growing more and more slowly.

在中国，人口的增长越来越慢了。

四、more than

more than 这一短语，含义丰富：一是意为“多于，超过，超出”时，其后通常接数词，相当于“over ”；二是意为“不仅仅是，不只是”，其后常接名词、动词或从句，相当于“not just”；三是表示程度，意为“很，非常，极其”，其后常接形容词、副词等，相当于“very ”。例如：

We ve lived in this house for more than twenty years.

我们在这房子里已经住了20多年。

She is more than a teacher to us，but like a mother.

对我们来说，她不仅仅是一位老师，更像一位母亲。

I was more than angry at the time，but I had a good laugh about it afterwards.

我那时非常生气，可后来又觉得很好笑。

需要注意的是，若是more...than...，则用于两者的比较，意为“比……更……，比……多”。more 后常接多音节的形容词、副词，也可接名词，其前可加上“much”。若用于同一人或物的两个不同特征比较时，则意为“与其……，不如……”。例如：

Now，he does his homework much morecarefully than before.

他现在做作业比以前仔细得多。

He is more diligent than clever.

与其说他聪明，不如说他勤奋。

五、no more

no more相当于“not...any more”，表示否定，意为“不再，再也不”，多表示次数上的不再增加，用来修饰表示具体动作的瞬间动词，如 go，come，buy，sell，borrow，leave，say等，常置于句末。例如：

You can drink no more.

你不能再喝了。

Starting today，I will buy junk food nomore.

从今天开始，我再也不买垃圾食品了。

需要留意的是，若是“no more than”，则表示肯定，意为“最多，只不过，仅仅”等。若是“no more...than...”，则用于两者的比较中，表示否定前后两者，意为“不……，也不……”“与……一样不”，相当于“neither... nor...”。例如：

She looks no more than thirty years old.

她看起来最多三十岁。

He is no more than a simple farmer.

他只不过是个淳朴的农民。

She is no more a dancer than singer.

她不是歌手，也不是舞蹈家。（=She is neither a singer nor a dancer.）

She is no more interested in sports thanyou are.

她和你都對体育运动不感兴趣。（= Nei- ther she nor you are interested in sports.）

当然，含 more 的常用短语并不只有上述提及的这些，在平时的学习中，同学们要注意整理和摘录，并时常翻阅，从而强化记忆。
