In the process of English learning,reading instruction guided by themes and based on discourse plays an important role in cultivating students' cultural awareness.Therefore,teachers should fully explore the cultural value of language in teaching practice,and through the design of classroom activities,carry out discourse study with the main purpose of enhancing students' cultural awareness.Under the premise of mutual promotion and development of language ability,learning ability,and thinking quality,cultivate students' ability to appreciate excellent culture,promote the formation of positive emotional attitudes and correct values.

I.The Background and objectives of contemporary English teaching reform

From the historical process of traditional English teaching,it can be seen that for a long time,traditional English teaching focused too much on imparting language knowledge and neglected the cultivation of language skills.This educational concept can no longer meet the demand for English talents in modern society.Therefore,educators are beginning to realize that English teaching should pay more attention to the cultivation of students' language proficiency and cross-cultural communication skills.The reform of curriculum design is relatively simple in traditional English curriculum,with a focus on reading and writing.This setting is no longer able to meet the comprehensive development needs of students.Therefore,in the reform of English teaching,the curriculum has become more diversified,and abilities in listening,speaking,reading,writing,and other aspects have been valued.

However,the goals of traditional English teaching are relatively single,and contemporary English teaching concepts are gradually shifting.The practice of English teaching based on language learning and cultural understanding is widely recognized.Under this updated teaching objective,the main goal of English teaching reform is to enhance students' English proficiency.This includes the comprehensive improvement of various abilities in listening,speaking,reading,and writing,especially in speaking and listening skills.Through reform,students can better use English for communication and expression.Secondly,cultivating cross-cultural communication skills has become increasingly important with the acceleration of globalization.The reform of English teaching aims to strengthen cultural education and cultivate students' cross-cultural awareness and communication skills.Once again,promoting fairness in English education.English teaching reform is also committed to eliminating educational disparities between urban and rural areas and regions,so that every student can enjoy fair English education.

III.Innovation and method design of contemporary English reaching models

In the exploration of contemporary English teaching practice,after years of development,it has undergone multiple changes and progress.The continuous innovation and development of teaching methods have injected new vitality into English teaching practice.The ranks of teachers for humanistic quality cultivation are uneven.Due to insufficient attention to humanistic education,insufficient investment in policies,systems and financial resources,there are also many problems in humanistic teachers.On the one hand,the number of teachers to cultivate humanistic quality is insufficient,the staffing is unscientific,the teaching quality is not up to standard,or teachers with insufficient professional skills are arranged to take part-time jobs.Second,humanistic quality education should be the task of all teachers,but some teachers have not yet got rid of the old educational concepts and teaching models.Third,some teachers with humanistic quality do not realize the importance of humanistic courses and their own lack of education and teaching ability.The teaching content and methods are dull and single.There is no atmosphere of collective discussion in the classroom.The teaching content and methods are not attractive to students.

Firstly,blended learning mode: combining online and offline teaching.With the development of technology,online teaching has gradually integrated into English teaching.Blended learning combines the advantages of online and offline teaching,not only providing rich learning resources,but also better meeting the personalized needs of students.

Secondly,self-directed learning mode: cultivating students' ability for self-directed learning.Autonomous learning is a student-centered teaching method that emphasizes students' self-management and self-learning abilities.By guiding students to develop learning plans and goals,teachers can help them cultivate the habit and ability of self-directed learning.

Again,a diversified evaluation model: to comprehensively evaluate the learning effectiveness of students.Traditional evaluation methods often only focus on students' exam scores,while neglecting the cultivation of other abilities such as speaking,writing,and teamwork.Diversified assessment evaluates students'learning outcomes through various methods,including classroom performance,homework,group discussions,self-reflection,etc.,in order to gain a more comprehensive understanding of their learning situation.

Finally,future English teaching will place greater emphasis on the comprehensive development of students,cultivating their cross-cultural communication skills and critical thinking.Meanwhile,with the application of new technologies such as artificial intelligence,English teaching will become more intelligent and personalized.Teachers need to constantly update their knowledge and skills to adapt to new developments in education.

IV.Conclusion

Cultural awareness reflects the value orientation of core literacy,and reading is a top priority in middle school English teaching.How to make good use of each article,set reasonable and accurate teaching activities to enhance students' cultural awareness is the key for all frontline teachers to actively think and practice.Through reading teaching,we help students open the door to the world,establish correct outlooks on life,the world,and values,and enable them to understand the true meaning of learning.Teachers should have the courage to innovate and try.Only by continuously practicing and summarizing experiences through exploration in English reading teaching can their teaching become more proficient.English teachers should keep up with the pace of the times,actively achieve curriculum goals and concepts in the classroom,cultivate students' ability to comprehensively use language,and truly enable the formation and development of cultural awareness to take root in reading teaching.
