As a senior craniofacial plastic surgeon,I have had the opportunity to interact with plastic and craniomaxillofacial surgeons from mainland China frequently in the last twenty-four years.I met Prof.Ti-Sheng Chang first time at the Asia Pacific Craniofacial Association(APCA) meeting in Adelaide (1998),then the same meeting in Shanghai (2000).

Prof.Wei Wang in Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital invited me to be one of the co-editors in his two-volume textbookPlastic Surgerypublished in 1999.I gave lectures at the Chinese Society of Plastic Surgery annual meetings and many plastic surgery workshops organized by either Prof.Yilin Cao or Prof.Shuzhong Guo.Along with Prof.Lee L.Q.Pu from the University of California,Davis,I have engaged in instructional courses of the International Society of Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) in different places in mainland China,as well as the formation and function of the World Association for Plastic Surgeons of Chinese Descent(WAPSCD) since 2008.Also,I have close contact with oral and maxillofacial surgeons from mainland China and gave lectures in their society meetings in different cities. As a hospital administrator,I have closely supervised Xiamen Chang Gung and Beijing Tsinghua Chang Gung Hospitals over the last ten years.

In the last three decades,I witnessed the fast advancement of reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery in mainland China:(1) a vast number of patients with a variety of pathology and a high degree of severity;(2) great innovative ideas and new intervention procedures emerged clinically and in basic research.I found these phenomena in various meetings, workshops as well as in the increasing numbers of articles from different centers published in prominent journals, including thePlastic and Reconstructive Surgery (PRS),Annals of Plastic Surgery,Journal of Plastic,Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (JPRAS),andJournal of Craniofacial Surgery. We all believe that surgeon of Chinese Descent has a brilliant mind, skillful hands, and a strong desire to be successful. With the recent outstanding performance in internet technology and uprising economic and social conditions in mainland China,Chinese reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgeons will contribute tremendously and make a significant impact on the plastic surgery field worldwide.

I congratulate Prof.Qingfeng Li,Editor-in-Chief,and Prof.Xiaoxi Lin,Executive Editor, for their vision, leadership, and effort to create theChinese Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (CJPRS),the first English plastic surgery journal in mainland China. This journal provides a platform for all plastic surgeons, especially those of Chinese Descent,to publish their clinical observations, innovative intervention, and research findings,as well as exchange ideas and discuss the issues related to ethnic and cultural differences.I believe this journal will be indexed and popularly referred in the near future!
