Not being able to go to school, Zhang taught herself to read and write. At 15, Zhang moved to a small village with her parents in 1970. There was no hospital and the villagers had to walk more than 10 kilometres to see a doctor. She decided to make a change. She read medical books and practiced acupuncture (針刺疗法) on herself. Soon, she acquired enough medical knowledge to help villagers with basic treatments. During her years there, she treated more than 10,000 people for free.
Zhang also taught herself several foreign languages, including English, Japanese, German and Esperanto. To learn a new English word, she had to repeat it as many as 200 times. Before and during the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games, Zhang worked as executive president of the organizing committee to promote a barrier?free environment, for example, tactile (触觉的) systems for the blind, lowered service counters for wheelchair users and greater access to buildings. “These practices can set a good example for China in the future,” Zhang said.

One of the most important ways to learn and master the English language is to read, read, and read. It is said that a good reader is also a good writer and a good speaker. However, in todays world, reading is something that most children dislike doing.
There are simply so many distractions that books, magazines, and newspapers are often ignored and they are in favor of video games and movies. And while video games and movies also play a role in helping children learn the English language, they still cant quite compare to reading.
And as a result, kids are learning less and less. Take a look at an elementary level textbook. Youll notice that the books for elementary students are filled with pictures and colors. Those pictures and colors in the elementary level textbooks arent there just for the sake (緣由) of design. Colors and pictures make us more engaged in the act of learning grammar. They catch our attention and help us retain (保留) more of what we read. This is especially true for little children who enjoy fun English.
Children are quite easily distracted. When you ask them to sit down and read quietly, their minds will often wander and it wont take long before you find them doodling (乱涂) and not doing what you told them to do. But if a book is colorful enough to catch a kids attention, then youll have a better chance of getting the kid to sit down long enough to learn English.
The same principle holds true for interactivity (互动). Like colors and pictures, interactive reading materials, like English songs for kids, also get the child engaged in what he or she is learning. Interactive reading materials get the child to focus since using them is almost like playing.
12. Why do children dislike reading?
A. Reading is difficult for them.
B. There are many distractions.
C. Reading is short of interactivity.
D. There are too many ugly pictures in books.
13. What kind of books will children be interested in according to the text?
A. Books that are full of pictures.
B. Books that are explained clearly.
C. Books that are written clearly.
D. Books that are easy to buy.
14. What can colorful books help children do?
A. Communicate with people more frequently.
B. Think in more effective ways.
C. Fix their attention for a longer time.
D. Show more interest in design.
15. Whats the main idea of this text?
A. Reading is an important way of learning a language.
B. All the books should be full of pictures and colors.
C. Interactivity and colorful designs are important in learning English.
D. Interactive reading is very interesting for children.
第二節
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
A lot of people think that they are not good at learning a new language. 16
Good language learners look for opportunities to hear and use the new language outside of the classroom on a daily basis and consequently learn the language more quickly.
17 For instance, they can talk to salesmen, join sports clubs, or even talk to people in coffee stores. They might read newspapers and magazines in that language, watch movies, listen to podcasts, or join chat rooms. All of these are great opportunities to practice the new language and can also be fun.
In addition, good language learners try different ways to make their message understood. For example, if they do not know the word for “laundromat”, they might say “the place where you can wash clothes”. 18 The point is that good language learners are creative and do not easily give up.
Finally, good language learners are prepared to take risks. 19 As a result, instead of being embarrassed by a mistake or getting frustrated when they do not understand, they see it as gaining a learning opportunity. For example, if they do not understand what someone says the first time, they are not afraid to ask them to repeat it again and again until they do understand. Or, if someone corrects their vocabulary or grammar, they try to remember instead of becoming shy about speaking.
20 It cannot be done in just a few months. Hopefully, these methods will help you be a good and confident language learner in the long run.
A. Becoming fluent in a language takes time.
B. But we can learn a new language through looking up new words.
C. If that doesnt work, they might even try drawing it or acting it out.
D. Besides, good language learners use various ways to learn English words.
E. They understand that making mistakes is natural and necessary to learn.
F. If theyre studying in a country where the language is spoken, this is easy to do.
G. However, we can learn from good language learners to become better at languages.

Chinese: A language for life
第二节
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My efforts to learn, read, write and speak English have been a significant challenge in my life. When I first came to the United States from Hong Kong about 12 years ago, I could barely communicate in English. Today, although I still have much to learn, I realize I have made a good amount of progress in my years abroad.
I grew up in a small village in China, where no one I knew spoke English. I wasnt exposed to English or any other language through books, magazines or TV. Only when I later went to study in Hong Kong, was I exposed to American and Western culture through movies, music and other media. Although English is common in Hong Kong, I still couldnt speak, read or write much after graduating from high school.
In my early 20s, I decided to move to New York City and I was determined to make a new life for myself there. I knew that learning English was very important if I wanted to be successful in this new country. New York seemed like another world and without speaking much English it was even more difficult to make friends.
I didnt have a teacher at first, so I tried every way I could to learn the language. One way that was very useful was listening to the radio and watching TV, mostly news. I tried to speak like the people I heard on TV. They spoke more clearly and it was easier to understand than the English I heard people speaking in my neighborhood. I picked up one word at a time, and looked it up in the dictionary. I would also try to write down the words and remember them. I made a goal of learning at least 20 new words every day.
注意: 續写词数应为150左右。
Paragraph 1:
After a while, I made friends with some native speakers.
Paragraph 2:
Thinking back on the ways I have learned English over the years, I have something to say.
