Courage and confidence can
defeat adversity
Courage and confidence play a vital role in defeating adversity. It s never possible to succeed if one is cowardly and unconfident.
Anthony Mmesoma Madu, a Nigerian boy, is a typical example of defeating adversity with courage and confidence. Boy as he is, he steps out of the traditional bias that ballet can only be practiced by females. He catches the eyes of the world by becoming a male ballet dancer. It is his courage and confidence that make his dream come true. His success proves that adversity can be conquered once you re courageous and confident.

【参考范文】
Paragraph 1:
When he heard the name of the town that she came from, a strange light filled his eyes. Immediately, he rose and went down through the hospital hall into the lady s room. Dressed in his doctor s gown, he went in to see her. He recognized her at once. It was she who gave him the confidence to pursue his dream in that cold winter. He went back to his office and determined to do his best to save her life. From that day on, he paid special attention to her case. After a long struggle, the battle was won.
Paragraph 2:
Feeling better and better day by day, the young lady felt grateful to Dr Howard Kelly, but at the same time, she was worried about the expense. Years of illness has run out of all of her savings. Her worry was known by Dr Howard Kelly. So he requested to pass the final bill to him and wrote something on the side. The bill was sent to the lady s room. She opened it with trembling hands. The note on the side of the bill caught her attention. She read these words, “Paid in full with a glass of warm milk. —Dr Howard Kelly.” Tears of joy and gratitude flooded her eyes. Looking out of the window, she found everything was full of life. The spring has already come.

Perseverance leads to success
Success rarely happens overnight. It is perseverance that makes failure the mother of success.
I used to struggle with my math. However hard I tried, little progress was made. I was about to give up when my math teacher came to my assistance. She told me the value of perseverance and encouraged me to keep going. I took her advice and changed my strategy. It worked at last and my grades gradually improved.
This experience tells me that life is a journey requiring continuous efforts. Only by constant efforts can we eventually obtain success.
第二節
Paragraph 1:
We decided to call everyone we had been in contact with over the course of the past week. Megan insisted that we should let them know that I had tested positive. Hard as it was to inform people that we might have given them the coronavirus, it was the responsible thing to do. To our pleasant surprise, all of our friends showed their understanding and support upon
hearing the news. To cheer us up, one of my wife s best friends even baked a cake with the letters “Stay strong” on it and delivered it to our front door.
Paragraph 2:
Though worried about the seriousness of the virus, I knew I had to be brave. I made sure to get plenty of rest and did some exercise to stay as healthy as I could. I also managed to ease the worries of Megan and our kids during our quaran
tine by spending more time doing online video chats with them. Within the following
week, my fever started to fade and I could feel my head clearing. The next test showed a cheering result. It came back to a negative. Had it not been for the love and care from those around me, I wouldn t have made it.
