在英语教学实践中,学生对一些远离生活实际的题材感到比较陌生,难以调动学习兴趣。确实,教材配套的教学资源远远满足不了现实的教学需求,教师需要丰富课程资源,拓展英语学习渠道。生活中存在大量可供利用的教学题材,挖掘本土教学素材,拓展教学资源,可以使英语学习体验有趣又有效。
一、课堂设置融入本土资源,激发学习兴趣
在日常教学中,笔者搜集本土素材,把本地社会风貌、历史名人、知名建筑、传统小吃、历史传说、节日庆典、风土人情、知名公司、产业制造情况等纳入课件中。学生们在课堂上可以看到戊戌变法的参与者康有为,知道爱国华侨、著名的民族企业家陈启沅,及我国第一家民族资本经营的机器缫丝厂——继昌隆缫丝厂。在笔者的鼓励下,学生用英语说出了詹天佑和他修建的中国第一条铁路。当有个男生说出黄飞鸿时,另一个男生迫不及待地说出叶问和他的咏春拳。教学外研版九年级上册Module 3 “Heroes”时,学习课本的邓亚萍、白求恩事迹之余,笔者挖掘岭南文化名人素材,在课堂上介绍英雄事迹,在语言输出运用环节,放手让学生用英语介绍本土英雄。有一个学生写了一篇介绍黄飞鸿的英語文章:
My hero—Huang Feihong
Huang Feihong is one of the most famous heroes in Foshan. He was a Kongfu master. He lived an adventurous life.
Huang Feihong was born in 1856 and died in 1925. When he was young, he loved Kongfu so much that he practiced it day and night. Soon he became a Kongfu master. He taught a lot of people to learn Kongfu, including some foreigners, so he had students all over the world. In a way, he spread traditional Chinese culture to the outside world. Huang Feihong was not only a Kongfu master but also a doctor. He healed many wounded with Chinese medicine. Many people saw him as a Chinese folk hero. His adventures were made into films. He is still remembered by many people.
还有些学生写了叶问与咏春拳、李小龙、詹天佑、康有为等。学生发现自己可以用英语介绍身边的英雄,真实的语言体验和学习的成功体验交叠在一起,对学习产生了很好的推动作用。
教八年级上册Module 2时,围绕“My home town”这一主题,笔者引入舞狮、乐安元宵灯节、佛山秋色、香云纱、西樵山、南国桃园、千灯湖、南海广场、佛山新城、美的集团、碧桂园等本地素材,作为任务型课堂教学的话题,学生的学习兴趣自然被激发,参与积极性倍增。
二、对本土素材的融入进行调整、补充、完善
1. 注重课堂观察
课堂观察中,笔者发现学生对卡拉OK很感兴趣,又了解到小李同学上周六在桂城好乐迪开了生日派对,邀请同学唱卡拉OK,笔者特意在教学一般过去时的课件中添加了相关情景。看到现场照片出现在电脑课件上,学生兴奋异常,纷纷用英语说出自己的“K歌”经历。在Free Talk环节,小李拿着生日派对的照片介绍:“Last Saturday was my birthday. I held a birthday party. Some of my classmates took part in it. I received some presents from them. I had a good time.”另一个学生小张接着说:“Yes, we enjoyed ourselves because we ate the birthday cake and sang songs together.”真实的生活体验与语言学习相结合,学生对这个知识点掌握得特别好。
2. 进行课后调查
笔者会不定期组织学生召开座谈会,或者发放调查问卷,收集统计学生的反馈意见,了解他们感兴趣的话题、题材,对教学内容进行调整、补充、完善,增强课堂实效性。平时与学生谈心聊天时,笔者也会适时地征求学生对教学方面的意见,以期在本土教学资源的选择方面更有针对性。
3. 学生参与教学资源的拓展
笔者尝试让学生自己动手做英语课件,鼓励他们把最想表达的内容呈现在课件上。学生小王把他在保利水城的购物经历做成课件,上面有千灯湖的照片、保利水城的内景、JUSCO(永旺超市)的货架、商场内熙来攘往的景象,还配了英语句子:“This weekend I went shopping in JUSCO with my mother. I helped her carry the shopping bag. It was a little heavy, so I felt a bit tired when we got home. But I was happy. ”学生们对这些场景太熟悉了,课堂参与度非常高。小王看到自己制作的课件成为全班学习的课件的一部分,得到了语言学习的激励,其他学生也有了一个学习和参照的榜样,动手实践的热情被激发出来了。在这些真实的情境中,英语学习显得有趣又轻松。
