【Abstract】With the development of modern educational reform and the increasing requirements of improving teaching quality of English in high schools, small-class teaching mode is becoming a more and more important and popular trend in China. This paper is a study of the advantages of small-class teaching of English to high school seniors. The purpose of this paper is to help popularize small-class teaching mode in high schools so as to improve the learning efficiency of high school students.

The size of the class is measured by the number of students in a classroom. From the perspective of a country or a region, the size of the class involves the number of students, the number of teachers, the number of classrooms and many other factors. There is no doubt that the size of the class has no direct effect on students academic performance, but in reality it influences the psychological and mental activities of teachers as well as students in classroom teaching activities, such as teachers psychological state, teaching style and teaching quality, thus significantly affecting the teaching effect.

1. Overview of Small-Class Teaching

With the increase of teachers and richness of education resources, organizational form of teaching, correspondingly, is becoming diverse and abundant. After applying small-class teaching into practice, it has acquired outstanding achievements. Here, there are some brief introductions including the background, the theoretical basis and current development trend of the English subject.Since the eighteenth century class teaching system has been virtually applied and gradually popularized throughout the world. In the process of years of practice, people come to realize that there exist considerable negative effects of teaching activities if class scale is too large to guarantee the outcome of teaching. Small-class teaching can not only strengthen the interaction between teachers and students, stimulate students learning initiative, but also make teacher pay more attention to students personality development according to the differences of students individual cultivation.

2. The Factors Affecting the High School Seniors English Learning Efficiency

The key to improving students academic performance is to improve their learning efficiency. There are many factors that can influence the learning efficiency of high school seniors, including organizational form of teaching, teachers teaching methods, the influence of native parents, students physical quality, psychological quality and learning ability, etc. Normally, learners are willing to learn from instructors with superb teaching level and favorable teaching style. If instructors are knowledgeable, humorous and attractive, learners tend to focus on the context and show extreme enthusiasm. On the contrary, if instructors with boring and monotonous teaching style deliver a speech, learners may feel sleepy and impatient. It matters that there is no direct influence between instructors teaching style and students learning efficiency. However, teaching style may impact students mood and attitude, which will have an indirect effect on learning efficiency. 3.Advantages of Small-Class Teaching of Englishendprint

The advantages of small-class teaching of English to students are noteworthy. Apart from optimizing the schools management, reducing the burden of teachers, it can also improve the quality of English teaching.Under the guidance of student-centeredness and the theory of teaching students in accordance with their aptitude, small-class teaching in in China is developing towards the direction of theoretical research deeply. If we can apply this new teaching mode to high school seniors in the English classroom, quality of English teaching will be improved exceedingly. Hence, the author will explain relevant theories in brief.

In a word, small-class teaching mode can reduce the pressure of teachers teaching and optimize the teaching effect, fully mobilize students learning enthusiasm and initiative, which is conducive to the optimization of teaching quality and learning efficiency. It will be a superior improvement in the process of popularization of compulsory education, and it will be a remarkable innovation in the practice of quality-oriented education.
