Chinese Web Novels Prevail
among Foreign Readers

According to statistics from Novelupdates.com, a website that translates popular Asian novels for Western readers, Chinese web novels have created a reading frenzy①frenzy 英 ['frenzɪ] 美 ['frɛnzi] n. 狂暴；狂怒；暴怒among foreign readers. Among the site's top 10 most popular web novels, fi ve were written by Chinese authors.

Chinese web novels have also been prevailing②prevailing 英 [prɪ'veɪlɪŋ] 美 [pri'velɪŋ] adj. 流行的；一般的，最普通的；占优势的；盛行很广的on other websites and forums, attracting a large number of foreign readers.

Many foreign readers say they have become hooked on③hook on 迷上，着迷（常用于被动语态）Chinese web novels thanks to the novels' strong, imaginative plots, which include discussions of reincarnation④reincarnation 英 [,riːɪnkɑː'neɪʃ(ə)n]美 [,riɪnkɑr'neʃən] n. 再生；化身, body tempering and Chinese alchemy⑤alchemy 英 ['ælkɪmɪ] 美 ['ælkəmi] n. 点金术；魔力. Wuxia, meanwhile, features stories of martial arts and magical powers.
