Abstract: Task-based Language Teaching has attracted scholars attention at home and abroad. In order to know its development better, this thesis discusses the literature review of TBLT in English language teaching.
Key words:Task-based Language Teaching;deMany scholars at home and abroad pay much attention to the development of TBLT and its application. In 1979, Prabbu put forward the framework of TBLT (developed from Bangalor Project) into practice first in which students may learn more effectively. In 1987, Candllin focused on the evaluation of the difficulty in finishing tasks. Long proposes the conversational interaction view for TBLT, while Willis and Ellis promote the teaching procedures. In a sentence, foreign research gives much more instructions to domestic research.
In the 1990s, domestic scholars began to bring in the theory of TBLT. For the theory, Yue Shouguo analyzes the theoretical basis and its application.Both Gao Xiaoling and Fang Wenli encourage teachers to apply TBLT into college English teaching to improve students ability. Then many scholars carry out studies of TBLT for English teaching practice, which can be summarized into several aspects: the research for oral English (e.g. He Lianzhen&Wang Min, Du Ye, Li Wangyi&Li Yanqing, Tan Xiaochen&Dong Rongyue, Li Weijia&Chen Jiliang), research for English writing (e.g. Cai Lanzhen), research for English teaching(e.g. Feng Yufang&Tang Xiaoyan, Gu Zhizhong, Su Qiuping, Liu Yan), research for multimedia teaching(e.g. Cheng Kela, Ji Xiaoyuan&Shi Xiaomei, Zhang Yawei, Liu Caimin&Chu Xiangqun), research for learning strategies(e.g. Yang Cuiping&Liu Mingfang), research for English grammar ( e.g. Wen Weijian, Dai Weidong&Ren Qingmei).
To summarize, the research for TBLT is not comprehensible and inefficient in operation. As for the relatively comprehensible application of TBLT, it only exists in elementary and secondary education. As for the college English teaching, although there are many kinds of research on college English teaching, it is usually carried out in teaching communicative skills, especially oral English teaching, which should be further considered.
