Florida is named the Sunshine State and known for its warm climate and natural beauty. It joined the U.S. as the 27th state in 1845.

Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon, who led the first European explore team to Florida in 1513, named the state in memory of Spains Easter celebration known as “Feast of Flowers (Pascua Florida)”.
1513年,西班牙探险家胡安·庞塞·德莱昂率领首支欧洲探险队到达佛罗里达州,为纪念西班牙著称为“花的盛宴(Pascua Florida)”的复活节庆祝方式,以此给这个州命名。
During the first half of the 1800s, the union armies started a war with the native people in Florida. During the Civil War, Florida was the third state to secede1 from the U.S. Beginning in the late 19th century, residents of Northern states flooded into Florida to escape freezing winters.

In the 20th century, tourism became Floridas leading industry and remains so today, attracting millions of visitors every year. Florida is also known for its oranges and grapefruit2, and some 80 percent of Americas citrus3 is grown there.
