sight

(1)sth that is seen, esp. sth unusual, beautiful,etc. 景象;奇观

He enjoyed seeing the sights of the West lake.他喜欢观赏西湖美景。

(2)the power of seeing 视力

He lost his sight in an accident. 他在一次事故中丧失视力了。

(3)the seeing of sth 观看;瞥见

I caught sight of my old friend in town today. 我今天在城里看见我的老朋友了。

拓展 lose sight of 看不见

out of sight 在视线之外

in/within sight 看得见,在视线以内

辨析 sight: 值得看的名胜风景,常用复数。

scenery: 指总的自然景观。

scene: 指所看到的远近各处景象,也包括人活动的场景或布景。

view:表示从某个角度能看到的远景。

What a happy scene of children playing in the park! 孩子们在公园里玩耍的景象是多么令人愉快呀!

Youll get a good view of the town from the top the hill. 从山顶上看城镇视野非常好。

We passed through some beautiful scenery on our journey through the lake. 我们在穿越英国湖泊区的旅途中,看到了不少美丽的景色。

John enjoyed seeing the sights of the Mount Tai. 约翰喜欢欣赏泰山的风景。

suit

(1)n. a set of outer garments 外套;西装;套装

He is wearing a sports suit. 他穿着运动服。

(2)to look attractive on sb 适合(某人)

Its almost impossible to find a time that suits everybody. 想要找一个对所有人都合适的时间几乎是不可能的。

拓展 suitable adj. 合适的

be suitable for sth /to do sth 适合于……

辨析 fit: 多指衣服尺寸大小合身。

suit: 指衣服颜色款式适合某人,或者指某事安排适合某人。

match: 意为“使相称,相配,匹配”,指事物在大小、色调、性质等方面的搭配。

It doesnt suit you to have your hair cut short. 你不适合剪短发。

Her nails were painted bright red to match her dress. 她把指甲涂成了大红色,为的是与裙子相配。

I tried the dress on but it didnt fit. It was too small. 我试了那条裙子,但是并不合身,太小了。

panic

(1)v. to cause to fearful 使……恐慌

Shoppers are panicked into buying things they dont need. 消费者因恐慌抢购了一些他们并不需要的东西。

(2)n. a state of sudden uncontrollable quickly-spreading terror or anxiety. 恐慌;惊慌

she got into a real panic when she thought shed lost the tickets. 想到自己把入场券弄丢了,她十分恐慌。

拓展 be in a panic 处在恐慌中

panic sb into doing sth 使某人(因惊慌)仓促做某事

注意 panic的过去式和过去分词都是panicked

guarantee

(1) to promote sth With certainty to sb 保证,向某人担保某事

搭配 guarantee to do sth 保证做某事

guarantee sth to sb 向某人保证某事

We guarantee to deliver within a week. 我们保证在一周之内运到

I guarantee that Ill pay off his debts. 我保证我将还清他的债务。

Even if you complete your training I cant guarantee you a job. 即使你完成了培训,我也无法保证你有工作。

(2)n. a promise that sth will be done 保证

a formal written promise to repair or replace a product without charging if it has a fault within a specific time after you buy it. 保修单endprint

Wealth is not a guarantee of happiness. 财富并不是幸福的保证。

The watch comes with a years guarantee. 这块表保修一年。

appoint

(1)to choose sb for a job or position任命;委派

They appointed Mr. White(to be) manager of the company.

= They appointed Mr. White as manager of the company.

= They appointed Mr. White to act manager of the company. 他们任命怀特先生为公司经理。

We must appoint someone to finish the tough task. 们得指定一个人去完成这项艰难的任务。

appoint sb as/to be... 任命某人为……

appoint sb to do sth 委派某人做某事

(2) to arrange or decide on a time or a place for doing sth 安排

eg: please appoint a time for the meeting. 请安排开会时间。
