Dear Colleagues,
We would like to invite you to submit an abstract to the following session of MODSIM2013 (20th Int. Congress on Modelling and Simulation), which will be held in Adelaide, Australia, in December 2013:
L10 : Modelling men-induced land subsidence
(Stream : WATER RESOURCES)
Men-induced lowering of the land surface by some mm/yr until some cm/yr is worldwide occurring and can be driven by different causes. Among others, extraction of fl uids (water, gas, oil)from geologic formations (aquifers, conventional and unconventional hydrocarbon reservoirs), drainage of organic soils, peat-harvesting, land reclamation and mining activities are driving forces for different subsidence mechanisms.
Land subsidence can strongly impact on structure/infrastucture functioning and stability. Land level lowering in many coastal areas is much higher then sea-level rise and therefore has a much greater impact on fl ooding hazards. Modelling land subsidence by advanced numerical simulators as well as by more simple empirical relationships represents the only way to quantify the expected trends and to forecast adaptations of human activities for a sustainable and safe use of natural resources.
We invite contributions exploring the development of state of the art models for land subsidence simulation and/or their application in regional or local case studies. We also invite the submission of abstracts aimed at quantifying the impact of land subsidence from the environmental, structural, or economic points of view.
Extended Abstracts (max 1 page)or papers (max 7 pages)must be submitted by 8 July 2013.
