Jiangxi’s Copper, Tungsten and Rare Earth Processing Capacity Ranks Top Nationwide

Jiangxi boasts extremely rich mineral resources in nonferrous metals, in particular its advantages in copper, tungsten, and rare earth is prominent. In the recent years, through policy guidance, investment promotion, and prioritized development, its copper, tungsten and rare earth industries have become important forces for leading rapid development of Jiangxi’s nonferrous metal industry. The sales income of Jiangxi’s nonferrous industry in 2008 reached 192.8 billion yuan, almost one quarter of the industrial sales income of enterprises with annual sales income of over 500 million yuan in the whole province, and accounting for about 9% of national sales of the nonferrous metal industry, the leading status of Jiangxi’s nonferrous metal industry in the industry of the whole province is becoming increasingly prominent, its propelling role is strengthening day by day.

The development advantage of key resources has become more prominent. The development of Copper, Tungsten, and rare earth business is encouraging. In 2008, Jiangxi Copper industry fulfilled a sales income of 130 billion yuan, the Tungsten industry fulfilled sales income of 23 billion yuan, the rare earth industry fulfilled sales income of 10 billion yuan, Copper, Tungsten and rare earth has developed a complete industry chain from dressing, smelting processing to scientific research, its processing capacity tops the nation. In 2008, the whole province copper material processing capacity topped 1,500,000 tons; its production reached 1 million tons, ranking among the top 5 nationwide.Jiangxi has developed APT production capacity of 80,000 tons/year, accounting for 58% of national production; the production capacity of Tungsten powder is 27,000 tons/year, accounting for 35% of national production, which enabled it to become an important production base of Tungsten smelting product in the country. The Dingnan and Xunwu rare earth separation project of Jiangxi Tungsten Industry Co.,Ltd have been completed and launched into production; Jiangxi’s rare earth sector has developed 50,000 ton/year separation capacity and rare earth metal capacity, and has become an important rare earth production base in the country.

The strength of key enterprises has improved continually. In 2008, Jiangxi Copper has developed 900,000 tons of copper cathode production capacity, its self produced copper concentrate has reached nearly 200,000 tons, the enterprise’s total asset has reached 39.1 billion yuan, with sales income approaching 60 billion yuan. It has become the largest manufacturer of cathode copper, copper processing material,sulfuric acid and important rare and precious metal production base. Jiangxi Rare Earth &Rare Metals Tungsten Group Corporation has fulfilled main business income of 6.1 billion yuan, its products have developed from singular Tungsten products to multiple metal smelting processing products, its integrated processing capacity for non ferrous metal smelting has developed from several thousand tons to 30,000 tons, and is busy building a batch of key projects with considerable influence and driving power including 400,000 tons new type alloy material, 3000 tons of hard alloy, 40,000 tons of nickel etc. In recent years, it has invited business investment to attract a large group of domestic top class enterprises in non ferrous metal industry to come to our province for investment and plant building, and has completed a batch of modern enterprises with large scale,high starting point, and new technology, for instance Jiangxi Jintian Copper Industry co.,Ltd, Yingtan Xingye Electronic Material Co.,Ltd, Jiangxi Honglei Copper Industry Co., Ltd,Shangrao Hefeng Copper Industry Co., Ltd,Jiangxi Zili Resource Recycling co., Ltd etc.,which further enhanced the grade and strength of the non ferrous metal industry enterprises in our province.

Resources have become concentrated in advantageous enterprises. Through resource integration, non ferrous metal resources have become further concentrated, at present the copper resource reserve of Jiangxi Copper Industry Group accounts for 95% of the copper resource reserve of the whole province, Jiangxi Tungsten Industry Group Co., Ltd, Jiangxi Rare Earth & Rare Metal Tungsten Industry Group Corporation, Chongyi Zhangyuan Tungsten Product Co., Ltd, Xiushui Xianglushan Tungsten Industry Company control more than 75%of the Tungsten mine resource reserve in the whole province; Ganzhou Rare Earth Mining Industry Company controlled 90% of the rare earth resource reserve in the whole province.By implementing a large number of key projects, the smelting and processing products of Copper, Tungsten, and rare earth have achieved rapid development.
