According to domestic media, the town of Dali, which accounted for nearly one third of domestic total output of aluminum products, started an energy-saving and emission-reducing campaign last July. As the industrial campaign enters its final stage, the relevant departments have ordered all plants involved to complete regulatory tasks before Jan. 20th. 42 aluminum plants have closed since the start of the campaign.

The Dali Energy-saving and Emission-reducing Office announced that 180 plants are involved in this campaign. To date, 42 plants have closed, 66 have completed regulatory tasks and 98 expect to complete these regulatory tasks before Jan. 20th. During this campaign, 39 reverberators, 19 oxidation coloring lines, 2 electrophoresis lines and 1 spraying line have been demolished.

Although the campaign is coming to an end,the relevant departments claimed some resistance exists from local plants with a ‘happy go lucky’ attitude that tended to repeatedly postpone tasks. Some plants laid emphasis purely on waste gas and waste water treatment but neglected rod furnace and aging furnace renovations, and consequently failed the physical inspection.

The relevant departments have specified a deadline for completing regulatory tasks of Jan.20th for all plants involved in the campaign. In addition, plants must pass the physical inspection and apply for a trial for main operation.Failure to comply with these measures will result in forced closure or a suspension in operation by the government.
