how many意为“多少”，用来询问可数名词的数量，后面跟可数名词的复数形式，常出现在“How many + 可数名词复数 + 助动词/情态动词 + 主语 + 动词原形 + ...？”结构中。例如：

How many books do you have？ 你有多少本书？

How many cakes would you like to buy？ 你想买多少个蛋糕？

它还出现在“How many + 可数名词复数 + are there + 介词短语？”结构中。例如：

How many hours are there in a day？ 一天有多少个小时？

How many birds are there in the tree？ 树上有多少只鸟？

how much的意思也是“多少”，但它后面跟不可数名词。它有两种用法。第一，用来询问不可数名词的数量，后面跟不可数名词。例如：

How much water is there in the bottle？ 瓶子里有多少水？

How much bread do you usually have for breakfast？ 你早餐通常吃多少面包？
