Even though we write emails more often than write letters today, we have to write letters sometimes. Can you write letters in English?
Before writing, you should make clear about the type ofyour letter. There are many different types of letters, such as a letter of apology, a letter of making friends, a thank-you letter, an application letter, a proposal letter, a recommendation letter andmore.
A basic structure of a letter will include the following:
Greeting: Include a salutation at the start of your letter. Make sure that you use the appropriate name and title for the person.
A brief introduction: After your salutation, your letter should include a brief introduction. This can include a brief, "I hope you are well” or some other friendly introductory phrases. Then, dive right into explaining why you are writing.
The primary purpose of your letter: The main part of your letter will focus on your reason for writing. When writing the letter, be concise. Two or three paragraphs are plenty.
Closing: End your letter with a professional closing that conveys your thanks and respect. Closings like "Sincerely""Best"and "Regards” work well.
Signature: Include your contact information below your typed name.
Here, I'd like to show you some examples of different letters.

3.A letter of apology
Dear Danny,
I'm sorry to tell you that I can't go to the cinema with you this Sunday. I feel terrible that I will break our promise and miss the chance to have fun.
The reason for this is that I just heard of a wonderful calligraphy exhibition which will be held in our city on that day. It's said that this exhibition will gather a large number of famous works created by top masters. It is definitely a great opportunity for us to experience the charm of Chinese calligraphy and enrich our knowledge about Chinese culture. Since you are fascinated by Chinese culture, I sincerely hope you can come with me together.
I am looking forward to your reply!
Yours sincerely,
Wang Bing
