The Mid-Autumn Festival

Hello,everyone.My name is Grape Pan.Today,I will tell you something about the Mid-Autumn Festival,which is one of the traditional Chinese festivals.

As we all know,there are many legends about the Mid-Autumn Festival,such as Chang’e flying to the moon,Wu Gang cutting Osmanthus Tree and Jade rabbit pounding herbal medicine,of which the story of Chang’e flying to the moon leaves a deep impression on me.

Legend has it that in ancient times,there were ten suns in the sky,which made the earth smoke and the sea dry.A man named Hou Yi was determined to relieve the suffering of the common people.He climbed to the top of the Kunlun Mountain,opened his bow and arrows,and shot down nine of the suns.Therefore,he was respected and loved by the people.Many people came to learn martial arts due to their admiration for Hou Yi.Among them,Peng Meng,an ill-hearted man,also mixed in.

Not long after,Hou Yi married his beautiful wife Chang’e.In addition to teaching on the art and hunting,he spent all day with his wife.One day,the queen mother of the West on the Kunlun Mountain gave Hou Yi a pill of fairy medicine.It is said that he could become an immortal after taking this medicine.Hou Yi shared the pill with Chang’e for safekeeping.Unexpectedly,it was seen by Peng Meng.He took advantage of hunting skills learnt from Hou Yi to break into the inner house and snatch the fairy medicine.To keep the medicine safe,Chang’e had no choice but to take it herself.Suddenly,she became a fairy and flew to the moon.

After Hou Yi came back,he found that his wife Chang’e wasn’t at home.He rushed out of the door anxiously,seeing the bright moon in the sky,the shadows of trees dancing on the full moon,and a jade rabbit jumping around under the trees.His wife was standing beside a laurel tree,gazing at him affectionately.“Chang’e,Chang’e,” Hou Yi called repeatedly and chased the moon.But he failed to catch up with the moon.

The villagers missed Chang’e very much.They put the favorite food of Chang’e in the yard and blessed her from afar.Since then,August 15th every year in the Chinese lunar calendar has become the Mid-Autumn Festival.On this day,wherever you are,people try to gather together,eat mooncakes and enjoy the glorious full moon.What a happy day!

This year,the Mid-Autumn Festival and Teachers’ Day were on the same day,which added a new dimension to the celebration of it.What was the most exciting this year was that the Mid-Autumn Gala held by CCTV took place in my hometown Zhangjiagang City,which was undoubtedly a feast of eyes.Of course,it enhanced our pride in our prosperous city.And also we gained a deep insight into our traditional Chinese culture.
