Potato的其他意思

PEP《英语》四（下）有这样的对话：-Look at the green beans.They’re so long! -Yes, and the potatoes are big.这里的potato 意思是“土豆；马铃薯”。除“土豆；马铃薯”外，potato 还有其他意思。

1.指人。如：

small potato 小人物

big potato 大人物

couch potato 天天坐在沙发上看电视的人

mouse potato 天天玩电脑游戏的人

例句1：Don’t be a couch potato！Let’s go running！别老窝在沙发上看电视了！我们一起去跑步吧！

例句2：This new computer is for school work，do you understand？ I don’t want you to be a mouse potato.这台新电脑是为你做功课用的，你明白吗？我不想你成为一个网虫。

2.说事。如：

hot potato 非常麻烦的事，烫手山芋

the clean potato 正确的事

例句3：The thing is really a hot potato.这件事真是个烫手山芋。
