The Hong Kong Police Force will increase its outreach efforts to schools, parents and student groups this year in a bid to build trust in the citys most visible law enforcement agency and raise awareness among young people on why it is important to follow the law, said Deputy Commissioner Raymond Siu Chak-yee on Monday.

Siu said outreach efforts will include regular briefings to explain policies on issues such as how cases involving juveniles are handled and to debunk(揭穿)false information and accusations that have been said about the police force on public platforms.

Siu said the police mulled over the idea soon after the 2019 social unrest quietened down in spring last year, as they found that mostly young people were victims of the often-violent street protests. Of the 10,200 people arrested for crimes allegedly committed during the unrest, more than 4,000 were students, according to police data from December.

Speaking of his conversations with these youngpeople at the station, Siu said there were two things that struck him most. One is that many of them were misled and incited(煽動)by things that they saw on social media. He remembered many of them saying they believed they would be assaulted or even sexually abused by the police after being caught.“Because thats what they have heard from time to time...During this social unrest, the kids have been very much affected by fake news, fake reports,”Siu said.

The other thing Siu noticed was a reluctance(勉强)to admit crimes and show regret among juvenile offenders. According to police data, only 19 juveniles arrested for offenses related to social unrest have joined the Police Superintendents Discretion Scheme(警察监管量刑计划), which focuses on rehabilitation(复原)through corrective supervision, rather than prosecution(起诉).“Unfortunately, a lot of people were asking these juvenile offenders not to say anything when they were arrested by the police,”said Siu, adding that the juveniles were told to believe that was the way out.

B. to build trust in HKs government

C. to appeal to the youth to join the Force

①They were misled by something on social media.

②They were affected little by fake news, fake reports.

③They were unwilling to admit crimes they had committed.

④They showed much regret for what they had done.

A.①②③④

B.①③④

C.①③

D.②④

32. According to the Police Superintendents Discretion Scheme, what would probably happen to the 19 juveniles arrested for offenses related to social unrest?

A. They would be locked down in prison.

B. They would be correctively supervised.

C. They would be prosecuted as soon as possible.

D. They would be sent back to schools.

Nowadays, more and more young people prefer to celebrate a Spring Festival by travelling rather than stay at home. The reasons can be listed as follows.

Firstly, with the economy developing and living standards improve, people can afford to travel to various places. Secondly, modern public transportations such as Chinas high-speed railway has been great developed, making it easier for people to travel from one place to other. Besides, as attitudes of life change, young people think travelling is a more fashionable but popular way to spend the holiday.
