二、句子的主语是指物的词

当句子的主语是指物的词时，be supposed to意为“本该；本应”，多用来表示某事情本应该发生而没有发生。例如：

The meeting was supposed to take place on Thursday,but we have to put it off.这场会议本应该在星期四举行，但是我们不得不把它推迟了。

The train was supposed to arrive at 9:30,but it was 20 minutes late.火车本应在九点半到达，但它晚了20分钟。

三、be supposed to的否定形式

be supposed to的否定形式是be not supposed to，相当于should not或be not allowed to，意为“不应该，不准，不得”。例如：

You are not supposed to smoke in public.It’s bad for our health.你不应该在公共场所抽烟。它对我们的健康有害。

Though your mother mistakes you sometimes,you are not supposed to talk back to her.即使有时候你的妈妈误会了你，你也不应该顶撞她。

四、be supposed to的疑问形式

be supposed to的疑问形式是将be动词提到主语之前。例如：

Is she supposed to arrive at the airport at three in the afternoon?她应该在下午三点到达机场吗？

What are you supposed to do in class?在课堂上你应该做什么？

五、be supposed to的其他含义

be supposed to还可以表示“一般认为；据说”等含义。例如：

Her brother is supposed to be very clever.人们认为她的哥哥非常聪明。

Let's go and see that movie.It is supposed to be very good.我们一起去看那部电影吧。据说它非常好看。

be supposed to have done sth.表示“本应该做某事但没做”。例如：

He is supposed to have arrived an hour ago.他本应该在一个小时前就到。

You're supposed to have handed in your homework.你本该把作业交上来了。

【注意】

be supposed to是一种被动形式，其主动形式通常为“suppose...to be+形容词 /名词”，意为“认为某人/某事……”。例如：

We suppose Linda to be an excellent nurse.我们认为琳达是一位优秀的护士。
