大学英语阅读长难句技巧解析

摘要：大学英语阅读一直都是大学英语教学的重点，而阅读中最困扰学生的就是长难句的分析和理解。据此，主要从长难句的特点入手，介绍了分析、理解长难句的具体方法和策略。

0.引言

随着英语在国际上应用得越来越广泛，国家对于掌握外语这门工具的专业人才需求也日益增大。在全国高校普遍开展大学英语教学改革的环境下，提高教学效果是各高校英语教学的主要目标。很多学生进入大学以后反映大学英语学习中主要遇到两大难题。一是词汇量太大，记不住单词；二是句子长，读不懂意思。有些同学说一句话中的单词都认识，但是组合在一起就弄不懂句子意思是什么，所以很多同学对此甚是苦恼，甚至对大学英语学习失去信心。

确实，大学英语无论是词汇还是篇章难度与高中英语都上升了一个层次，所以学生对英语学习感到不适应也是正常的现象。那么对于文章中出现的复杂长难句的情况，我们该如何应对呢？首先我们要了解什么是英语中的“长难句”。长难句指的就是句子中语法结构复杂，从句中套着从句，而且长度很长的句子。这种句子各部分容易混淆，对于基础不好的学生来说，很难找到主谓宾成分，所以句子意思就不容易分析出来。如果句子意思弄不清楚，会非常影响学生答题的心情和对整篇文章的理解，因此，我们最主要是理清长难句的句子主干。

1.长难句的分析与理解

1.1并列平行结构（Parallelism）

e.g.The great challenge in chemistry is the devel-opment of a coherent explanation of the complex behav-ior of materials，why they appear as they do，what givesthem their enduring properties。and how interesting a-mong different substances can bring about the forma-tion of new substances and the destruction of old ones。

在这个长难句中，首先找到句子主干，即主谓宾结构。主语和宾语多是由名词性短语来担当，在这句中The great challenge就是主语。谓语动词通常是符合正确语态形式的动词，比如说be+doing进行时，或者have done完成时等，所以is是谓语动词，即系动词，而the development就是表语。of后面的成分a coherent explanation of the complex behavior of materials作为定语修饰前面的development。前面的结构都非常清楚，之后why引导的部分看上去比较复杂，实际是三个并列从句成分，即①why they appear as they do，②whatgiyes them their enduring properties，③how interesting among different substances can bring about the forma-tion Of new substances and the destruction of old ones.所以这句话的主要意思就是主干所体现的The chal-lenge is the development.（挑战就是发展）。

1.2从句结构（Clause）

e.g.Those who oppose the building of flats basetheir case primarily on the assumption that everyoneprefers an individual home and garden and On the highcoat per unit of accommodation。

在这句中，Those是主语，who oppose the buildingof flats是定语从句，修饰主语Those.base是谓语，their case是宾语。on the assumption and on the highcoat是由and连接的两个介宾短语做状语。that eve-ryone prefers an individual home and garden是that引导的同位语从句，引出assumption的具体内容。所以这句的主干部分是Those base their case on the as-sumption and on the high coat。

1.3分词结构（Participle）

e.g.Seeing that each nation has it characteristicmerits and demerits we adjust our standard of values soas to make out that the merits possessed by our nationare the really important ones。while its demerits arecomparatively trivial。

這句的特点是开头由seeing that状语从句引导，中间是句子的主谓宾结构we adjust our standard ofvalues。后面紧接着so as to make out that目的状语，that后面的部分是make out的宾语从句。把所有修饰成分去掉，这句话的句子主干就是we adjust our stand-ard of values（我们调节自身的价值观）。

2.结语

长难句分析一直是学生进行大学英语学习中的一个难题。正确的进行长难句分析对于理解文章和作者想表达的内涵意思有很大的影响作用，因此，大学英语教师在平时的英语教学中，一方面要给学生介绍多种词汇记忆方法，扩大学生的词汇量，尽量减少在长难句中遇到生词的几率，为正确理解句子含义减少障碍；另一方面，应该在平时的课堂教学中通过多见多练，逐渐提高学生理解和分析长难句的能力，使长难句的出现不会成为学生阅读理解文章时的拦路虎，进而提高学生的阅读理解综合能力。
