The academic theme of this issue ofJournal of Tianjin Academy of Fine Artsis mainly comment on and analysis of “public art” as well as some thoughts on its cultural concept. For this reason, the column Figures of Today of this issue focuses on Mr. Jing Yumin, who, as a well-known professor at TAFA, has directed and participated in a series of public art projects highly influential in today’s China.
The columns Exhibition Reviews and Art Vision of this issue also center on public art and the creation of contemporary sculpture, and probe into the topic from different perspectives considering the cultural ecology of relevant artistic creations. Unavoidably, contemporary artistic creation is closely related to the particular environment of creation, the particular mentality of the artists and the viewers’ opinions. Both a group of artists and an individual artist must take publicness of art into account in their artistic creation. This kind of experience is precious to every experimental exploration of art today and study and rethinking about it.
Meanwhile, in the column of Art History and Theories, we recommend a series of relevant research results in art historical and theoretical research, which, whether they are analyses, in a new light, of phenomena in Eastern and Western art history or expansive researches in connection with contemporary theory and practical experience, may serve to reveal, in a better way, the artistic nature and artistic quality in our cultural horizon. This will be beneficial not only to understanding and perceiving public art and sculpture, but also to structuring a more open and creative world of art.
