A kitchen is a room or part of a room used for cooking and food preparation. In the West, a modern kitchen is usually equipped with a stove, oven, sink(with hot and cold running water), dish-washer and refrigerator. Every kitchen has a regular oven because food such as meat, vegetables, bread, and cake or other desserts are normally cooked or heated in it. Most kitchens also have a microwave oven. Western kitchens are usually large enough to eat in and have their own kitchen table and chairs.
In most Chinese kitchens, ovens and even microwaves are not common and the space in the kitchen is not very large. The stove usually has two burners(sometimes only one) and people cook almost everything in a wok. Nearly the only thing you dont use the wok for is preparing rice. Another difference is that many Chinese kitchens only have cold water and no dish-washer. So not only do you have to wash dishes by hand, but you may also have to do it with cold water unless you boil some water in a pot then put the boiled water in the sink.
Since Chinese kitchens are very small, most refrigerators are not placed in the kitchen but put in the living room or a hallway. The freezer is not as big as western freezers. You are lucky if you can put one fourth of a pig in the freezer while western stand-alone freezers can sometimes contain a whole cow.
