I had never noticed her. She was not the kind of girl who could draw attention. She was not tall and just looked 41. In class, she liked sitting at the back, reading or taking notes. One day I asked her to read aloud the text. When I heard her standard American 42, I looked at her with new eyes. And I 43 her name—Kelly. Later on, the National College Speech Competition would be held. One student in our school was allowed to attend. I thought it over and filled in 44 name.
Kelly practiced hard for the competition. However, I was a little worried because she was always too 45. Could she do well in the competition?
On the night of the competition, I sat in the front 46 of the hall very early. I told her to take it easy. Her 47 turned red and she said nothing. It seemed she was really 48. I felt upset, but I just patted her on the shoulder and let her go to draw lots (抽签). As a result, she drew No. 9 49 No. 8 was a boy who was very good at giving speeches.
Sure enough, No. 8 was very50. The whole audience made a warm applause (鼓掌) almost every 30 seconds and was still 51 about his speech with excitement until Kelly appeared on the stage. I sat there with no 52 to look at her. It was her first time to go up the stage, so I couldnt be angry with her for any small mistakes. But at that moment, I found I was so afraid of her 53.
The strong spotlight and large hall made her so small that nobody seemed to notice she had been on the stage. I felt hopeless.
But the moment that 54 me came. I clearly heard a voice, a very loud voice, “Now, please focus on me.”
Three times in all, louder and louder.
The whole audience fell silent.
I could 55 believe that loud voice came from the girl, who was usually softvoiced and didnt catch attention at all. She gave a perfect speech.
I think I will never forget this touching lesson that my student taught me—never underestimate (低估) the power of the silent people.

[WTHZ]A[WTBZ]
In Chinese peoples eyes, the moon is a magic place. Is there a beauty named Change? Does she keep a pet rabbit?
Our technology (技术) still cannot send a Chinese person up there to have a look. But now, we have a lunar probe (月球探测器). On early Dec 2, China sent the Change3 lunar probe up into space. It is expected to land slowly and safely on the moon in midDecember. Its called a softlanding. So far, only the US and the former Soviet Union have done [WTHZ]that[WTBZ].
First, a rocket sent the probe up into space. Later, the probe will fly close to the moon. It will then slow down and land on the moon. The Change3 is carrying Chinas first moon rover (月球车), Yutu. After landing on the moon, Yutu will start work. It is about 1.5 meters long and 1.1 meters tall. It travels at a speed of 200 meters an hour. It has cameras as its “eyes”, and “arms” to pick up things. In three months, Yutu will examine the natural materials on the moon. It also takes 3D pictures. These scientific studies are very important.
But the moon is just the starting point of Chinas deep space exploration (探索). Whats our next stop? “Many of our scientists are studying Mars, and how Chinese will land on it,” according to Chinas lunar program.
China is exploring the moon in three stages: orbiting (绕轨道运行), landing, and return. The Change3s task is part of the second stage. Its going to land on the moon, but it cant come back to the earth. In the next stage, Chinas probe will return with the natural materials from the moon. Scientists expect to do this by 2017.endprint
