Chinese Bridge Crosses the Danube
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vu?i? attended the completion ceremony of a new bridge across the Danube River in Belgrade on December 18, 2014.
The 1.5 km-long bridge is the first to be constructed by a Chinese company in Europe, and also the first to cross the Danube in Serbia in nearly seven decades. Premier Li and Prime Minister Vu?i? cut the ribbon together and unveiled a monument marking the bridges completion. Li Keqiang expressed gratitude to all Chinese and Serbian participants in the project. He said that the bridges completion will promote the local economy. It is not only a bridge of friendship between the Chinese and Serbian peoples, but also of cooperation, bringing mutual benefits to China and Europe. Prime Minister Vu?i? called it a symbol of SerbiaChina friendship. He added that the Serbian government and people were thankful for Chinas help and support, and willing to work with China to push friendly cooperation between the two countries to a new height.
“China Keywords”Multi-Language Platform Unveiled
“China Keywords,” a multilanguage platform to present essential China expressions, was officially released in Beijing on December 19, 2014. The project was co-produced by the China International Publishing Group, the China Academy of Translation, the Translators Association of China and China.org.cn.
The project aims to explain expressions relating to developmental theories, policies, culture, and philosophies of contemporary China. The platform is a window for the international community to better understand China and its development in the modern era. Many experts, scholars and professional translators from the Central Committee Party School, the Party Literature Research Office, the Policy Research Office of the CPC Central Committee, and CIPGs Center for International Communication Studies participated in order to ensure the accuracy of its contents. The projects first phase has been published on China.org.cn and will gradually become available in apps, social media and instant messaging platforms.
First China-CELAC Forum Ministerial Meeting Held in Beijing
The first ministerial meeting of the Forum of China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) was held in Beijing on January 8 and 9, 2015.
The meeting, cochaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Costa Rican counterpart, Manuel Gonzalez Sanz, passed three major documents: the Beijing Declaration, a five-year cooperation plan and the regulations on the ChinaCELAC forum.endprint
China and CELAC have also reached a consensus on deepening political mutual trust, expanding cooperation and promoting development of the forum.
Wang pointed out that President Xi Jinpings remarks at the opening ceremony will guide the development of the China-CELAC forum. “China will make efforts so that both sides can reap early harvests from the forum and build a new model of South-South cooperation,” Wang said. Gonzalez said that the historic meeting has launched overall cooperation between China and countries in Latin America and the Caribbean region, which will build a closer CELAC-China relationship and benefit people from both sides.
China, Cambodia Hold the 2nd Meeting of the Sino-Cambodian Inter-governmental Coordination Committee
The Second Meeting of the SinoCambodian Inter-governmental Coordination Committee was held in Phnom Penh on December 30, 2014. Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi and Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong co-chaired the meeting. Yang Jiechi pointed out that bilateral relations have made remarkable progress since the Committees first meeting a year ago. China highly appreciates Cambodias active promotion of the strategic partnership between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), he said, and is willing to work with Cambodia to push forward the “Belt and Road” initiatives. He added that China hopes to make greater contributions to developing new prospects for Chinas relations with the ASEAN countries. Hor Namhong said that Cambodia is grateful for Chinas longstanding support. Cambodia will make joint efforts to strengthen friendship and cooperation with China. Both sides reached broad consensus on planning the next stage of cooperation, and agreed to further strengthen high-level exchanges, promote strategic communication and economic cooperation. The two countries also agreed to make good use of development assistance, utilize services to improve peoples livelihood and expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges.endprint
