Analysis on Karl Popper’s Interpretation and Criticism of Karl Marx’s Moral Theory

GONG Tian-ping,FANG Zheng

The issue about Marx’s theory and morality has been controversial in the history of the development of Marxism. Popper considered Marx’s theory as a moral critique theory and the historicist moral theory;the latter,as a theory of historical relativism based on historical predictions, acted as a bridge linking activism with historicism. By criticizing Marx’s theory of morality,Popper proposed that the historicist theoretical foundation of Marx’s theory of morality was unscientific and moral positivism was illusory, the origin of which was biased. Popper’s interpretation of Marx’s theory of morality, sharing some grounds with Marx’s theory, has serious mistakes, which is mainly reflected by the fact that the Marx’s theory of morality is not based on historical predictions. Marx’s critique of capitalism is not just moral criticism but the unity of scientific criticism and moral criticism;and Popper’s misinterpretation is inconsistent with Marx’s theory of morality.

Should Superpowers Slip into the Thucydides’Trap? Analysis on the Competitive and Cooperative Features of Sino-American Relationship

JIN Can-rong

The Sino-US relations, which are very complicated, both competitive and cooperative, can not be simply defined as either an opponent or a friend. Structurally,China and the US have fallen into the Thucydides trap, but the relationship between the two countries has been much more complicated than the trap described in the history,as demonstrated by cooperation, confrontation and mutual dependence. Friction and confrontation are normal because China is dissatisfied with its pivot to Asia Pacific rebalancing strategy, and US is doubtful about China’s promotion of the new model of Sino-US relationship. Sino-US relations in the future are open and flexible. As a large country,China must adhere to the bottom line, avoiding direct confrontation.

On the Future Construction of Competitive Cooperation between China and America:A Leap from the Thucydides’Trap

LIU Wen-xiang,YANG Xiao-yong

The new model of major-country relationship has been the new relation with fundamental characteristics of mutual respect and mutual benefit since Cold War. Its basic characteristic is the avoidance of the Thucydides’trap that conflicts occur between the rising power and the old power as well as the political tragedy that great powers have to face in the fight for global power. This idea was advanced by John J. Mearsheimer, the most famous offensive realist representative. Sino-US relation is the most important bilateral relationship in the world today. The United States is still the hegemony all over the word with its comprehensive national power,on the other hand,China,as a rising nation, has had a great impact on the United States. Against this background,it is particularly important to build a new model of major-country relationship that benefits both countries rather than plays a zero-sum game.

Defense for A. Tarski’s Concept of Logic Consequence

ZHOU Zhi-rong

Alfred Tarski proposed the modern model-theoretic definition of logical consequence in 1936,but John Etchmendy argued that Tarski’s definition has two serious problems: extensional inadequacy and conceptual inadequacy of the analysis. Factually,Tarski’s definition, with some moderate modifications, can avoid the problems of over-generalization and under-generalization,hence his

definition is extensionally adequate. Based on the basic idea that his definition is not truth but satisfaction, the paper proposes that there is no problem in the reductive analysis in Tarski’s definition. The author concludes that if the central characteristic of logical consequence, according to the intuition of logical consequence,is not beyond truth-preservation,Tarski’s definition is an adequacy characterization of logical consequence.

The Distinctive Rhetoric in the Novels by LU Xun

WANG Li,XU Zu-hua

In a series of literary writings,Lu Xun has severely criticized the ancient sages’ideas represented by Confucianism. His criticism focused on such views as justice and morality, ethics and the so-called benevolence. The distinctive rhetoric in his novels, especially the rhetoric manifesting his anti-Confucius awareness,is closely related to his purpose and awareness of anti-Confucianism. In other words,it is the purpose and awareness that govern and bolster his rhetoric, particularly those normative rhetoric styles in his novel. The study of his distinctive rhetoric and his anti- Confucius cultures is conducive to the understanding of his literary achievements as well as to the analysis of the typicality of the distinctive rhetoric in his novels.

CHEN Yu-xiang,YANG Xue

Establishing FTZ in the appropriate area in China is a strategic measure taken by Chinese government to further the reform and opening up as well as to accept a higher standard of international trade and investment rules. It is the goal of this strategy to rely on the FTZs to explore an opening-up policy system to be replicated across the country. To ensure the effectiveness and the fairness of the strategy,it is necessary for the central government to build and apply a scientific and transparent evaluation system on how to select the FTZ.
