Sun Chuo was a famous author in the Jin Dynasty(265-420). When he was young, he lived as a hermit in Kuaiji (todays Shaoxing, Zhejiang) and roamed among mountains and lakes.
Later, he decided to end his seclusion from the worldly matter. With his skills, he was appointed magistrate of Zhangan (todays Taizhou, Zhejiang). There he wrote the famous Ode to the Journey in Tiantai Mountain. He described in his article that the grandeur and beauty of Tiantai Mountain could steal a mans breath, and said that no mortal words could fully show the charm of Tiantai Mountain.
His article was so well written that any man was proud to have a copy. His friend Fan Rongqi said to him: “If you threw the paper scroll recording your article onto the floor, you could hear a melodic sound, like a piece of music as beautiful as your verse.”
