China Investment Consultancy Co, Ltd (China Investment for short) announced on July 5 that the State Council appointed Ding Xuedong as the board chairman of China Investment. When he took over the chairmanship, Ding said that he would be committed to being a good “captain”and “leader” to steer the transformation of China Investment and make best of the current investment teams abilities.

Ding Xuedongs appointment filled the position which has been left vacant for four months. In March 2013, Lou Jiwei, former board chairman of China Investment, was appointed Minister of Finance. From then on China Investment did not see a new chairman. Several candidates were reported, including Tu Guangshao, standing vice mayor of Shanghai, Ning Gaoning, board chairman of COFCO and Huang Qifan, mayor of Chongqing. The experts believed the appointment of Ding Xuefeng to be acceptable for everyone.

Ding Xuefeng, 54, held the PhD degree of finance, has spent most of his career life in the Ministry of Finance. He once worked there as the Assistant to the Minister of Finance and Vice Minister of Finance. In May 2010, he became the youngest secretary-general of State Council at that moment. During his three-year term of office, he directly reported to Wang Yang, Vice Premier of China.

An insider from Central and Southern University of Finance & Economics, where Ding once studied, said that Ding received systematical education and owns great practical experiences.“He is a typical example of the scholar-turned governmental official in China.” But someone doubted that Ding Xuedong, who had little experience in dealing with overseas business, is a cautious and publicity-eluded person. It is worthwhile to watch the investment route of China Investment under his leadership.
