Small Enterprises Need More than Money

The fundraising of small enterprises has been talked about many times by both the president of central bank and the head of banking regulatory committee. It seems that every party has reached a consensus that small enterprises are in great need of capital support, which could be given in the form of credit loans.

Thats good news of course. But for todays small enterprises, what they want is more than money. They more crave for a fair environment in which they could compete with anyone without any worries about undercover sabotages.

The fair environment includes getting credit loans on equal terms. That means it is the core problem, whose being solved could put an end to most problems of small enterprises.

But it is not an easy task, if not an impossible one. Take Wenzhou for example: the fast development of small enterprises in the 1980s and 1990s greatly boosted this city, making it the representative of private economy and small enterprises in China. However, small enterprises in Wenzhou are not having a better time today. Thats because they were not treated as equally as their bigger counterparts in everything concerning survival and development.

The banks always say no to small enterprisesapplication of getting loans for the excuse none other than “safety”. Actually, no evidences and cases have proven that small enterprises are worse than big companies in repaying loans and keeping their words. When small enterprises in Wenzhou were not looked down upon by the banks, they were known for not only their business wisdom, but also their ability to return loans in time.

Ironically, we have frequently heard that some big companies, even the central state-owned enterprises, wasted billions of RMB on a futile overseas acquisition or unsuccessful development. They seem to be quite OK with that since the government would come out to help them get rid of the debts.

More than the unfair terms of credit is the unfair condition in tax and social responsibility. Without any blessings from the banks in credit loans, small enterprises are always required to pay the tax as much as big companies, which is a terrible burden for them.

When the unemployment becomes a problem in some places, small enterprises are frequently mentioned and considered the main force to lower the unemployment rate. At that time, no one seems to think of the increasing labor cost and the influence of hiring more people on the operation of small enterprises.

In addition to these, small enterprises embrace very little hope to win the competition with big companies, which are blessed with governments capital support and favorable policies. In a public bidding, the winner is usually a big enterprise, behind which lies many small enterprises not offered the opportunity to give it a shot.

Even though they do not lose in the competition, they might lose their property or identity one day, since big enterprises can make use of their power to squeeze them, to kill them and to eat them.

So, it is more of a problem of fairness than loans. Small enterprises desire an equal status with big ones. They do not want to be ignored or looked down upon by big enterprises, banks and government, not only in terms of getting loans, but also in the social status.
