编者注：所有8岁以上，并有相关的机构或医师证明智商（IQ）在70分以下的智障人士，经过普查登记即可参加特奥运动。 参加特奥比赛项目的最低年龄限制为8岁；未满8岁的儿童不能参加特奥比赛。各特奥组织准许6岁或以上儿童参加由该会提供的适龄特奥训练计划，或其它为推广特奥而特别举办的文化或社会活动。参加特奥运动没有最高年龄限制。

Special Olympics is an international training and competition for theintellectual disabilities(智障人士).Special Olympicsincludes(包括)summer games and winter games.And it includes different levels like local,national,continental(洲际的)and world games.

特殊奥林匹克运动会(简称特奥会)是专门针对智障人士开展的国际性运动训练和比赛。特奥会分为夏季运动会和冬季运动会。特奥会包括本地、国家、洲际和世界等不同级别的运动会。

The Special Olympics World Games is one of the world’s largest sports events.Every two years since 1968,athletes(运动员)from more than 100 countries have gathered to hold competitions for the intellectual disabilities.This world stage brings attention to the Special Olympics movement and helps createpositive(积极的)atmosphere(氛围)for the intellectual disabilities all over theworld.

世界特殊奥林匹克运动会是世界上最大的体育盛事之一。从1968年起，来自100多个不同国家的运动员每两年都会为智障人士举行体育比赛。这个世界舞台为特奥会运动带来了很多的关注，为世界各国的智障人士创造了一个积极乐观的氛围。

This summer,from June 25 to July 4,nearly 7,500 athletes from 180 countries will take part in the 2011 Special OlympicsWorld Summer Games in Athens,Greece.It will be theworld’s largest sporting event of the year.

今年夏天6月25日到7月4日，来自180多个国家的大约7500名运动员将参加2011年希腊雅典世界特殊奥林匹克运动会。这将是今年最重大的体育赛事。

The belief of the Special Olympics特奥会的信念

The Special Olympics believes that its athletes have the ability to learn.Under rightguidance(指导)andencouragement(鼓励),they can gain some skills,and enjoy the happiness of success.The Special Olympics believes that its athletes have the ability to improve their life quality.By training and competition,they can keepphysically and mentally healthy(身心健康).They will communicate more with their families,neighbours and volunteers.And their life quality will be further improved.The Special Olympics believes that its athletes have the ability tocontribute(贡献)to the society.With their own efforts,they can reduce the burdens of the family and the society.

特奥会坚信：特奥会运动员有学习的能力。在正确的指导和鼓励下，智障人士通过参加体育训练及比赛，能够获得相应的技能，进而享受成功的快乐。特奥会坚信：特奥运动员有提高生活质量的能力。智障人士通过参加体育训练及比赛，能够使身心健康。他们与家庭成员、邻居、志愿者以及运动员间的交往会更加广泛，生活质量也会进一步提高。特奥会坚信：特奥运动员有贡献社会的能力。智障人士通过自身的努力，能够减轻对家庭和社会的负担。

Them ission of the Special O lym pics特奥会的使命

Themission of the Special Olympics is to create conditions and opportunities for the intellectual disabilities to take part in training and competitions through many kinds of sporting events.It can help to develop theirpotentials(潜能)and perform bravely.In taking part in these sports,they can share happiness, exchange skills and improve friendship with their families,other athletes and thewhole community.

特殊奥林匹克运动会的使命是：通过丰富多样的运动项目，为智障人士参与日常训练及竞赛创造条件和机会，使他们发挥潜能，勇敢表现，在参与中与家人、其他运动员及整个社区分享快乐、交流技艺、增进友谊。

The aim of the Special O lym pics特奥会的目标

The aim of the Special Olympics is to offer equal opportunities for the intellectual disabilities to take part in social events,so they can have a chance to become useful people who arerecognized(认可)and respected by the society.

特殊奥林匹克运动会的目标是：为智障人士提供参与社会的平等机会，使他们有机会成为对社会有用、被社会认可和尊重的公民。

The slogan of the Special O lym pics特奥会的口号

The slogan of the Special Olympics is “Letme win.But if I cannot win,letme be brave in the attempt.”

特殊奥林匹克运动会的口号是：“勇敢尝试，争取胜利！(让我获胜，如果我不能获胜，让我勇敢地去尝试。)”
